So, one guy, his guitar, sultry lighting, and an accoustic set should equal a passive, relaxed evening of music and ambient sounds, right?
Wrong.
So wrong with Colin Meloy. Through an hour long set, then fifteen minutes of encores, Meloy had the audience practically eating out of the palm of his hands; hungry for more each time, Meloy pushed his music and talents to a limit that can only be reached in a live setting. His voice carried strong and true, ringing at all po... MORE

This is the first time I've actually made a post prior to attending a performance; however, there's a song and a video that I just couldn't wait to share. Think of it as a teaser post with a post Colin Meloy concert post to come. I had to share this particular video for the following reasons:
1.) The song is fabulous
2.) His shirt is fabulous
3.) His sense of humor is fabulous Happy almost Friday Moggers. Go out and face that Friday morning like champs! Ch... MORE

I have been a consistent fan of the work of Progressive Boink, be it related to music, sports or otherwise. This may be their funniestiVoice yet. The only post that even competes is the "we are RADIOHEAD :http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/archives/2008/01/ivoice_exclusiv.php response to Pazz and Jop 2k7.... MORE

How's that for a long and annoying title for a post? Well, it does sum up his show, but is hardly insightful, so I'll carry on... I returned to the scene of Ben Gibbard's solo show almost an entire year since I'd been there for that, only this time I was sans camera, which was beyond dumb because Mr. Meloy put on quite the show as always and I should have expected some film-worthy banter. Colin made sure to make fun of himself regularly, as he fumbled his own chords an... MORE

MOGstars 7/10 Live albums are a tricky thing to grasp. At times it’s a bit like listening into to someone else’s conversations, you understand what’s going on but the real meaning is lost – the music, no matter how accomplished, lacking the sparkle of a real show. Colin Meloy is the latest artist to navigate this minefield, with the release of his first solo album, Colin Meloy Sings Live!, an acoustic recording from last year’s tour.
Decemberist fans will instantly re... MORE

On his previous solo tour, Colin Meloy paid tribute to Morrissey and British folk singer Shirley Collins. This spring, when Meloy heads out on another solo trek, he will be singing the songs of soul legend Sam Cooke. Fans jonesing to hear it over and over again will be able to purchase the Colin Meloy Sings Sam Cooke EP from the merch stand.
They'll also be able to through some money down for Colin Meloy Sings Live!, which also hits music retail outlets on April 8... MORE

The Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy will release a new album of live recordings from his 2006 solo tour, dubbed Colin Meloy Sings Live! on April 8th. The two-week tour across the U.S. found Meloy covering tracks by British vets, folksinger Shirley Collins and the Smiths frontman Morrissey - both of whom Meloy honored separately with live EP cover albums (i.e. Colin Meloy Sings Morrissey and Colin Meloy Sings Shirley Collins). Meloy also covers Fleetwod Mac, R.E.M, and Pink... MORE

More sad bastard rock for this incredible week of my life.Who knows more about heartache then Morrissey....? Perhaps no one.
Colin Meloy of The Decemberist's released an EP of about five songs in 2005 while on tour with the Decemberists. Its his take on some of his favorite Morrissey songs.
Its great. If you can find it grab it.... MORE

Posted at Stereogum: Becky Stark's "It's all about love and the earth people, ya know?" shtick doesn't sit well with everybody, but Lavender Diamond's perch on the precipice of over-preciousness has its fans, like us and tourmate Colin Meloy. Mr. Decemberist contributes the b-side to Lavender Diamond's "Open Your Heart" single, covering Imagine Our Love lead track "Oh No" with the requisite degree of wistful self-pity. Fits him like a nice seersucker suit.... MORE

I've always been a huge fan of Morrissey's lyrics but (and I'm ducking and covering my head with my arms here) I just don't like Morrissey's vocalization. Some of my favorite covers are of Morrissey's songs and I recently bought Colin Meloy sings Morrissey, a 6 song CD. For those of you who don't know, Colin Meloy is the lead singer for The Decemberists, one of the best (in my opinion) bands to come out of the Pacific Northwest in 10 years. The songs and Colin's voice are ... MORE
