Apple came out victorious after a ruling in Washington yesterday (October 2nd) by the US Copyright Royalty Board that froze the royalty rate for songs purchased via iTunes for the next five years. The National Music Publishers Association wanted to increase the royalty fee from 9 cents to 15 cents per track. As The Queen's Princess alerted us last week, Coldplay released the brand new video for "Viva La Vida." It's a gorgeous video with vibrant colours and dramatic videography. Today, however, an alternate version popped up at OnSmash and it's completely different than the "official" version. Yesterday my roommate Joel and I were having a conversation about Coldplay. With the release of Viva La Vida they are sort of everywhere. Due to productions issues... Coldplay have had to postpone their U.S. tour in support of Viva La Vida. Originally scheduled to launch on June 29th, the Colplay's U.S. summer tour will start two weeks later on July 14th in Los Angeles. "The band have experienced some production delays which mean that the show simply won't be ready for June 29. Coldplay's Viva La Vida came storming out of the gates with over 700,000 album sold, earning the #1 spot on Billboard's chart this week. Vida is also number one in the U.K., Japan, Australia, France, Canada and Germany.... take that Lil Wayne! Coldplay are on course to earn their first ever number one single in the UK. Early sales figures for their latest release, Viva La Vida show the group to be edging out the lot, reports the BBC. Coldplay are teaming up with director Anton Corbijn for the 2nd time. The director made waves last year with the amazing Ian Curtis/Joy Division opus "Control" and recently agreed to direct a video for Coldplay's next single, the title track "Viva La Vida" from their forthcoming new album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends. The Ceasers, Yael Naim and Jet. What do they all have in common? They were all virtually unheard of before their singles were picked up to plug an Apple product. If you can still remember your MySpace log in info then you are in luck because Coldplay will be streaming their new album Viva La Vida in its entirety tonight, June 6th, 2008. But there is a BUT. The album will only stream in select countries and the U.S. of A is not one of them. This new Coldplay song is particularly stunning! Love the strings, and Chris Martin's vocals are flawless. Kudos to Brian Eno for production.
