A big improvement on Going to England. The sound is still somewhat cleaned up from what you'll hear on Cleaners' cassettes, but not so much so that it gets in the way of the songs. Some of Newell's most jubilant ("Let's Get Married") and gleefully silly ("I Was a Teenage Idiot Dancer") writing is here; "The Beat Generation and Me" is one of the best examples of his ability to write about the icons of the past with bittersweet nostalgia that steers clear of revivalism. Giles Smith proves to be a songwriter of merit as well on his two compositions, particularly the dainty "Felicity."
