All Music GuideThis split album features something of a summit meeting between two of the world's premiere doom outfits: Japan's Church of Misery and Canada's Sheavy. The boys from the Far East are up first, and proceed to unleash three samples of their serial-killer-themed, circular-riffed ("Spahn Ranch (Charles Manson)"), psych-intensive ("Road to Ruin (Charles Whitman)"), slow-creeping ("Reverend (Jim Jones)") material; as well as an energized cover of Saint Vitus' "War Is Our Destiny." Then it's the Canadians' turn to uncork another six tracks of somewhat varying pedigree. Namely: studio tracks "Destiny's Rainbow '96" (cut two years before its official album release) and Black Sabbath standard "War Pigs"; and four live cuts comprising the oft-covered "Suitcase Blues," and three tracks from Sheavy's previous full-length Blue Sky Mind, "Mountains of Madness," "Domelight," and the title track. All told, this makes for quite the package, as split LP's go; but probably won't interest too many listeners outside these bands' devout following.
