Finnish metallers Children of Bodom have a career- long history of recording covers. Skeletons in the Closet, a follow-up to 2008's Blooddrunk collects them on a single compilation with a few new ones thrown into the mix. Along with familiar versions of the Ramones ' "Somebody Put Something in My Drink," Slayer's "Silent Scream," Sepultura's "Mass Hypnosis," and Iron Maiden's "Aces High" are lighter tracks that reflect the band's more humorous side. These range from Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Lookin' out My Back Door" (complete with a banjo solo) to Britney Spears' "Oops, I Did It Again" to Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell." No matter the cover, and no matter how intentionally campy some of these are, they all contain the requisite "heaviness" that CoB are known for. In addition, there are a couple of new cuts: versions of Pat Benatar's "Hell Is for Children," and Suicidal Tendencies' "War Inside My Head." Internationally -- U.S.A., U.K., and Japan -- there are three different versions of the set, all with slightly different track listings.

Children of Bodom mean well, but Garage Days Re-Revisited this is most definitely not.Whenever a bunch of kids form a band, they start out playing cover versions of their favorite songs. Of course, Metallica played a very large role in popularizing the metal cover, their "Garage Days Revisited" b-sid...

The clip was directed by metal videographer extraordinaire Doug Spanenberg. Bodom are currently on the road with BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and SKELETONWITCH (dates here)

MIDGETS OF BODOM

This is my third Children of Bodom post in as many days. And while I’m sure you’re all sick of hearing about Bodom’s new covers disc, Skeletons in the Closet, this commercial is pretty funny. It was directed by Doug Spangenberg, who you might know as the director of videos for artists such as Lamb [...]

WITH A REBEL YELL, THERE’S WAR INSIDE CHILDREN OF BODOM’S HEAD

I’m usually anti-cover album – what’s the point, really? – but I have to admit that I’m more than a little curious to hear Children of Bodom’s Skeletons in the Closet… but mostly for non-metal or not-really-metal reasons. I mean, I’m sure that COB can pull off Slayer and Sepultura songs without breaking a sweat, [...]
