Given the tongue-in-cheek Beatles reference implicit in its title, as well as the respective pedigrees of both Michael Shelley and Francis McDonald, it's no surprise that Four Arms to Hold You is a pure pop delight, informed by the fun and carefree spirit which accompanies the best examples of this kind of loose side project. Alongside charming rockers like "That Kind of Girl" and "I Wanna Live with You" are Bo Diddley stompers like "Monkey Man"; for added variety, there's even a swell cover of Chixdiggit's "Gerry Cheevers," a tribute to the legendary NHL goaltender.

Cheeky Monkey were another one of those "dollar bin" artists that I loved so much. I mean how can you not love an album comprised of Mike Shelly, a NYC based singer-songwriter, and BMX Bandit/Teenage Fanclub founder Francis MacDonald. (Maybe you can, but I couldn't). The year was 1998 and this album was well worth every cent of that one dollar.
