Showing the MOG Love

So what inspires your MOG love? And why? What gets you to jump onto a fellow MOGger's thread? What kind of post elicits a comment from you? Need to express solidarity with someone else who just "gets" a favorite artist of yours? Compelled to swap anecdotes or answer a query? Why do you come back here to read, listen, look, post and comment, day after day, week after week?Inquiring MOGs want to ...

I was not/(am not) a big **Cheap Trick** fan, but this song has rocked my world for a long time. For my money, they became cartoon characters as their career progressed. But on this track they rock like bona fide rockers, ??not?? caricatures.

I want you to want me

So with my last post I seem to have struck a nerve with my fellow mogsters. Can a music collection make or break a relationship. Now I ask, lets say you are a few dates into this new found love, and you want that special person to really get to know who you are. What do you do, well of course you make them a mix tape. Ok, I just dated myself by saying tape, so I will say mix cd. Seeing most mix...

Wouldn't Preston Tucker be proud? Talk about gettin' too big fer your britches...The splintering of auto giant GM will shower us with toothpicks for decades, I'm sure. It'll over-burden the already bloated health care system, as well as offer retailer Walmart some brand new work force candidates.Hummer? Nope. Not Sufjan. And not the namesake wordplay from Slade. How'z 'bout Illinois one and only Cheap Trick? Still crankin' it after 30+ years of aural explosions, these guys were pretty much my Beatles. Their last recording, "Rockford", is named after their hometown. Nice homage. Here's Robin Zander in a '76 Trick show at the Columbus, Ohio Agora.

The latest (ok, close to two years old) CD by Cheap Trick is a great one. I own their box set and the two latest releases. I may need to get more. This is one of my faves from Rockford (I know they mean Rockford, IL but as a former resident of Rockford, MI I will choose to believe otherwise). Now, who's ready for a car ride?

Cheap Trick Going Back to 8-Track

See that thing up there? That's what we used to call an 8-track tape back in the dark days of the 70's. It was bulky and the format of four equal-length "sides" meant that songs were either put on the tape in a different order from the album or they would fade out in the middle, only to fade back in once the tape moved to the next "track" (it was called 8-track, but it was really four stereo t...

The first Cheap Trick album hit my sophmore year in college. That same week, they played for free with Photomaker at the Agora. I had missed them by a couple days at Max's Kansas City the previous summer and I was hot to see these guys. Played the crap outa this LP, and this remake of an old Terry Reid tune was one of my faves. You just knew these guys were headed for good things, actually, I t...
