All Music GuideThis LP contains music from two radio broadcasts that feature a remarkable all-star band: altoist Charlie Parker, trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, clarinetist John LaPorta, pianist Lennie Tristano, guitarist Billy Bauer, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Max Roach. In addition to playing bop standards of the period, to answer a request the ensemble performs a rather hilarious version of "Tiger Rag." The matchup of Tristano and his sidemen with Bird and Diz does not always work but it is fascinating to hear. In addition, there are a few excerpts from live sessions featuring poorly recorded but interesting Parker solos.
