We have a new tradition here at our house on Sunday night, Michelle invites her friend Wendy over, we cook dinner and watch True Blood. It's kind of funny when True Blood first started I was the only one who was into the show. After I kept on raving about it, one day while I was at work, Michelle and Wendy got hooked watching True Blood ondemand. So now we watch it, kind of like a viewing party...

Our friends at to die by your side have posted yet another rare cover on their stellar music blog. This time Chan Marshall is doing a low key rendition of The White Stripes' Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground. There's something about Marshall's low and sultry vocal delivery that sends shivers of excitement down my spine.

MOGstars 7/10Cover albums are a delicate thing. They can be like Bowie's Pin-Ups and provide stimulating reworkings of well-loved tracks, or they can plumb the depths of Duran Duran's Thank You and border on Shatner-esque hilarity, or they can just sink into oblivion. Luckily, Chan Marshall has already navigated this minefield once. 2000’s imaginatively titled The Covers Album saw her knock dow.

i must be on my 30th or more play by now. i'm loving this record.what is most disturbing is that i bought the vinyl for 34 bucks and i'm told that it was recorded in analog but matador was too cheap to give rti (the pressing plant) the analog copy OR the high resolution 96khz master. they gave the downsampled 16bit verion and rti then transfered to vinyl. i have no idea why it would cost more b...

I just saw a scene from an up and coming film Powder Blue with Jessica Biel. She stars as an exotic dancer who peforms to Werewolf by Cat Power. Werewolf is a unique choice for a song to strip to. The scene in question can be found online. It is powerful and distrurbing. I saw it as Biel's character taking a stand with her sensuality from the chaos in her life on the stage. As her routine conti...

I had a dream that featured this song as a soundtrack. I saw her there a former flame whom I hadn't seen in ages. I was waiting for her in front of this club for what seems like hours. I remember it being really cold outside as it was very windy and Chicago like. She finally shows up and she looks so much different, as if I didn't recognize her. That's when she blurts out, "We're moving to Seat...

Every year a panel of people who either produce cool indie rock or really like indie rock put together a list of everyone’s new favorite indie acts. This list being the Shortlist Music Prize and this year’s panel includes Franz Ferdinand, Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, one of the dudes from Snow Patrol, Panic! at the Disco among others. Even the Killers’ drummer Ronnie Vannucci makes the p

If there was ever a MOG book club, The Song is You, should be the first book we all need to be reading. The book is all about how the songs we love become an integral apart of our every day existence that is the soundtrack of our life. Here's an excerpt:"But no, music lasted longer than anything it inspired...He listened to the old songs again, years later on that same dark promenade, when every...
