Happened to be listening to this today and I came to the realization that the more things change, the more they remain the same. Good tune
A few days ago, I acquired Cassandra Wilson's Loverly CD, in some ways a return to the standards she sang at the beginning of her career (see Blue Skies). I am qualifying that statement because the Cassandra Wilson most of us have known since Blue Light Til Dawn is all over this album.

Old School C posted a fantastic version of "I Can't Stand the Rain" by Ann Peebles, which instantly started Cassandra Wilson's version playing in my head. She's accompanied solely by the National steel guitar of the late Chris Whitley. The combination of Wilson's almost mournful phrasing and that sound of Whitley's National guitar played with a slide gives this version a nearly haunting quality.
I think it was Bartleby that asked "what is your hair of the dog music?".. Well after much searching (from my bed, last night was simply too heavy to be moving yet, even at 3pm).. got in at about 5am or so :p. Anyway, eventually I found the perfect song.. Best not to mention the drink I'm having with it, just in case you think me an alcaholic.. sufise to say my mother would not aproove :P There are a few themes from this on piano.. but they are far too stacato for this...
