Carly Simon deserves a strong comeback, but this oddball project of re-recorded hits and misses isn't it.The obvious question is, "Why?" That is, why would a legendary artist go back into the studio and re-cut her best-loved hits for a new release? What makes Carly Simon's new project especially confusing is that no one thinks her classic singles need the least bit of tinkering with; those mell...
Carly Simon was huge in the Seventies and the Eighties - a singer who could sing nasty lyrics over a lush mainstream pop backing. You're So Vain is one of the all time great put-down songs and Nobody Does It Better is pretty near the top of memorable James Bond songs. She fell off the radar in the Nineties, writing occasional film scores and came back to the spostlight when she wrote the theme ...
Carly Simon has never been one to play to the masses, especially when it includes long plane flights over large bodies of water. Sixties icon Carly Simon is suing Starbucks, blaming bosses of the coffee chain's record label for the poor sales of her 2008 album This Kind Of Love. Simon signed a deal to release the Brazilian-themed disc through Starbucks' Hear Music label. The record sold just 124,000 copies, a third of ...
I previously asked if it would "ruin the climax to post my Favorite Album of 2008 in advance of the remaining albums" and was told it wouldn't. But I then discovered that what would ruin the climax would be not to post the album or the entire list until January 24th. Did anyone read it? I am not sure. I guess the end of January is already 1/12 into the 2009 music season. Duly noted.
