Here's the first track of my new album. There's a short story behind this one, too. When I was young, I used to tap dance. My mom was a dance teacher and taught in downtown St. Louis a few days a week. I was brought along and naturally, at 3 years old, started taking the class for little kids--you know, this is your right foot, this is your left foot... i guess all you do for the first year is the Hokey Pokey. Tribute or insult, tribute or insult... that's what went through my head before I recorded Cold Sweat with my trio for our upcoming album. Not a day passes that I don't hear a James Brown tune (see my music collection...). Especially considering his recent passing, I thought it would be appropriate to take a stab at recording a song he wrote. I chose Cold Sweat because it's relatively easy to translate to a trio. I've just booked the CD release party gig for my upcoming album: June 13 @ the Parkside Lounge in NYC Parkside is on Houston at Attorney St. sort of between Aves B & C. It'll be a good time. There'll be food, hopefully some free stuff to give away, and we're going to play a long, funky set.
