Artist: CalexicoAlbum: Carried To DustLabel: City SlangLink: www.myspace.com/casadecalexicoMaybe it’s the fact that in a month or so i’ll be heading into that crazy place we call Mexico but this album really speaks to me and it really shouldn’t. It’s not that I don’t like the band, the split they did with Iron & Wine was pretty good but on [...]

Calexico: Carried To Dust

Uncle T gave me Calexico's Garden Ruin for Christmas in 2006, and I tried but I could never get into it. I liked a few of Calexico's songs, but I could not develop much interest. Nonetheless, I took a chance and downloaded Carried To Dust on the basis of the official single, "Two Silver Trees" and found that not only do I keep liking that song better the more I hear it, the fifteen songs on t...

Acorn to Tour With Calexico

Remember the video game Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver for Playstation? The game had you go around as a naked blue demon sucking the souls from people's bodies, remember? Probably not, but I do and my tireless research on YouTube leads me to believe the game was pretty terrible. In addition to looking horribly boring [...]

No Country For Calexico (Calexico, Bowerbirds @ the Somerville Theater Sunday, 11/16)

When I first read Cormac McCarthy's 'No Country for Old Men' I remember thinking: a. I hope they make a movie of this, and b. I hope Calexico makes the soundtrack. I found out shortly thereafter that they were making a movie of it, and 'they' were the Coen Brothers. Killer! Calexico didn't do the [...]

    Two Silver Trees

These year-end lists have become arbitrary these days but they are, in a word, bullshit. Everybody has an opinion so there will never be a definitive list. I won't claim to have heard everything that came out this year, but I've heard enough to make this list incredibly annoying to assemble. That being said, I humbly present to you my completely subjective, undeniably folk-centric, and hastily ...

Calexico w/Cuff The Duke @ The Phoenix

After many years of neglect, I finally got around to seeing Calexico live on Tuesday night at The Phoenix. Admittedly I haven't been an avid follower of their style of Latin tinged eclectic folk rock, but I've always been curious enough to want to see them live, and thankfully they did not disappoint. They were already here back in July at the much more intimate Mod Club, and at that time the...

Endless Summer 4EVA 2009 Tour: Calexico Embarks on Globe-Trotting Jaunt through North America and Europe

They started off as mere "former members" of Giant Sand, branching off into the Friends of Dean Martinez. From there, it was onwards and upwards to the likes of Richard Buckner and Victoria Williams, also collaborating with Lisa Germano, Iron & Wine's Sam Beam, Neko Case, and so many beautiful others. This is Calexico we're talking about here — namely founding members Joey Burns and John Conver.

New! Stream Calexico's "Two Silver Trees" Off "Carried To Dust"

This is one of those haunting Calexico tracks and I'm totally digging it. The album, Carried To Dust, is out Sept. 9. For me, if the whole has this mysterious late night vibe, I'll be really happy. What do you think of this one?
