Missed Calexico the last few times they've come to your town? Don't worry because the Tuscon, Arizona-based rockers have recently released their entire collection of tour CDs via Touch & Go Records' digital store.
The CDs include studio outtakes, live recordings, exclusive studio sessions, and "consistently offer fans a unique perspective on the diversity and talent of Calexico" - that last part accroding to the band themselves.
Among the albums are 2007's Toolb... MORE

Does what it says so on the label. This is Calexico covering that famous Clash track, minus the dubby basslines & punk sneer. Sounds like it could walk outta the set of El Mariachi though...

Chasing a nameless foe, or being chased, across the desert, saguaro cactus throwing shadows on the canyon walls. Lizards watch us, bored.

If you haven't bought Love's Forever Changes yet, go out and buy it. It's a certifiable classic that you have to own. If you don't have Iron and Wine/Calexico's In The Reign's, you should own that too. In the meantime, here is Calexico covering Alone Again Or from Forever Changes.

I was checking out Calexico's website, and went to see what goodies they had in their audio section. It was under construction, but they put a link to archive.org. I've been here before, but had forgotten what a good resource for a lot of band sanctioned, free, recordings. Check it out.... MORE

Have I mentioned how cool Calexico is? I just love their music, and every once in a while I discover another gem from their collection. "Letter To Bowie Knife" is the latest. It makes me pause to turn up the speakers when I'm running the 14-hour shuffle. That's worth noting. I share it with you now. Enjoy... MORE

Letter to Bowie Knife by Calexico is better than sex with your mom. That's right, yours. It's even better than a good slice of muenster cheese. Although maybe not better than one in yr mom. Now, what else is better than yer other paltry offerings? Oh, anything by the Stooges is better than anything by any band with Cutie in their name. Any band with Velvet in their name should shut the fuck up unless Lou Reed is their singer. And I know all you emo folk have de... MORE

I've got a backlog of craziness to sort through - It has been a hectic few weeks. The days before Thanksgiving were tied up with work on a story for Calexico's upcoming concert. My editors actually decided to put them on the cover of our Calendar section - a rare, forward thinking move. But then Calexico deserves all the attention they can get - they are simply wonderful. Even though they technically aren't from Phoenix - I like to give them some props - they are an Arizona b... MORE

Great performance from Calexico last night on Austin City Limits. Not enough stuff off Garden Ruin, and no Guero Canelo, but still a spirited performance. The seemed to go over well, I hope this bodes well for them reaching a wider audience. Iron and Wine and Salvador Duran joined them for the title track from In the Reins.
Sufjan Stevens was also on the show - not as good and very strange, he and his band sported butterfly wings.... MORE

I think it was SatisifiedMind614 that first tumbled me to these guys. Whoever it was, I owe them an immense debt of gratitude (hmm, that's a good idea for a widget- the Debt of Gratitude Running Tab). These guys are really, really cool. Like a lot of bands, they've got many and varied influences that they proudly wear on their sleeve, but _nobody_ sounds like them. The closest one that I can think of would be maybe Gotan Project, but even they are still a far cry. The mo... MORE

One of the best experiences I had as a driver at Lollapalooza was taking Calexico from their hotel to O'Hare on Sunday morning. I have always enjoyed their distinctive sound, especially after Collin Jordan, my mastering engineer buddy, had singled them out as a band that makes really well-engineered records.
I had prepared a crazy mix CD for the Lollapalooza weekend. I knew I'd be driving the likes of Kanye West, Common and other artists who may appreciate discovering ... MORE
