Coil, The Ape Of Naples Boxset, The New Backwards and some Coil knowledge, word from a little bird, and how the heck are you?

Blog post image preview Caveat: The track here is mislabeled. This track is actually Algerian Basses. Arrrggghhhh:)(Above image from Important Records the amazing label that put this fine piece of work in the hands of fans like me:)Just got the Ape Of Naples boxset the other day, and though I love vinyl, currently I am sans turntable. Thank the gods for friends with not only such equipment (I really should have a slab player - and so should you:), but also the means of transfer to digital. (spa... MORE

Something Blue

(10)
Blog post image preview From Derek Jarman's Blue) from imdb "Losing his eyesight, Derek Jarman made this remarkable short feature in which his diaristic reminiscences, and commentary on his current degeneration from AIDS symptoms, are set against a placid musical score and a cool, empty blue background."

Oh Rose, Thou Art Sick!

(67)
Blog post image preview No great reason for uploading this one today, other than I still thrill to the late, great Jhonn Balance's clenched, disturbed vocal delivery and the bursts of uncharacteristic live percussion. It's somewhat hard to describe Coil's music to the uninitiated. Oh sure - "industrial" acts as a sort've catch-all, but I think that tag would only really apply to their first couple of albums, and even then - somewhat tenuously. My favorite anecdote to cite when trying to encapsul... MORE

Blog post image preview Just before Jhon Balance went into rehab, trying to excise the demon alcohol, Coil recorded this song. It came out on Foxtrot, a compilation album designed as a benefit for his stint in rehab, which, unfortunately didn't work out too well in the end. But the song is Coil to the bone. Someone's even gone to all the trouble to sync footage from A Clockwork Orange to the track which you can also watch:

Coil Live Muffathalle Munich, Germany 7 April 2002 (Wise Words From The Departed...)

(55)
Blog post image preview While the photos aren't from the set in question, the sounds definitely are.In preparation for the eventual release of Colour Sound Oblivion (of which this set may or may not be a part), I've decided to begin posting various parts from their short-lived live incarnation. The song is Broccoli. The inherent message is to remember to say Please and Thank You - a viable standard by which too few choose to live. And so, Broccoli (originally a track on Musick To Play In The D... MORE

Blog post image preview Derek Jarman from imdb "Against a plain, unchanging blue screen, a densely interwoven soundtrack of voices, sound effects and music attempt to convey a portrait of Derek Jarman's experiences with AIDS, both literally and allegorically, together with an exploration of the meanings associated with the colour blue." Blog post image preview In the latter part of 2006, Coil released several cds, either as rerelease or first official.Herein I want to let you know of them. Spreading the word, as it were. Originally released in 2002 as a concert CD-R, The Remote Viewer has now seen official status and I can unquestionably say that anyone whom even thinks they appreciate Coil MUST HAVE this album. Free music video of Tainted Love (11)
Coil's tainted Love video was primarily played at the time (1984-5) in gay clubs as a means of getting across the message regarding unprotected sex. Directed by Peter Christopherson, it is a moving piece any way it is viewed. Guest appearance by Marc Almond. I've included an mp3 so there's more Coil in the MOS.

Track: The Dreamer is Still Asleep- The Sonambulist in An Ambulance
The whole...Musick to play in the dark line gets me every time. I think it's one of the few things I have known long before I even owned CDs or listened to the radio. Coil's later work brings me back to my childhood. ...the weird shit I used to do to push my limits and bend the reality in front of me. At the risk of sounding trite, I really enjoyed the dark. If I couldn't see anything, I had to rely on my ears and mouth to relate to the new plane of temporary blindness... MORE

Coil Wraiths And Strays (From Montreal)

(79)
Blog post image preview God bless sharity. Missed out the first time 'round for Black Antlers. Naa more, tho. This version of Wraiths And Strays is from the initial 2004 CDR and is taken from a different concert than the version that appears on Black Antlers released in 2006(that being Paris). Slightly less full quality of recording than the "official" release, still a good insight to the live sound of Coil. Too, less Balance in this version, but a good start. OOP as far as I know. Enjoy.
