No great reason for uploading this one today, other than I still thrill to the late, great Jhonn Balance's clenched, disturbed vocal delivery and the bursts of uncharacteristic live percussion. It's somewhat hard to describe Coil's music to the uninitiated. Oh sure - "industrial" acts as a sort've catch-all, but I think that tag would only really apply to their first couple of albums, and even then - somewhat tenuously. Just before Jhon Balance went into rehab, trying to excise the demon alcohol, Coil recorded this song. It came out on Foxtrot, a compilation album designed as a benefit for his stint in rehab, which, unfortunately didn't work out too well in the end. But the song is Coil to the bone. Someone's even gone to all the trouble to sync footage from A Clockwork Orange to the track which you can also watch:

In the latter part of 2006, Coil released several cds, either as rerelease or first official.Herein I want to let you know of them. Spreading the word, as it were. Coil's tainted Love video was primarily played at the time (1984-5) in gay clubs as a means of getting across the message regarding unprotected sex. Directed by Peter Christopherson, it is a moving piece any way it is viewed. Guest appearance by Marc Almond. I've included an mp3 so there's more Coil in the MOS.

The whole...Musick to play in the dark line gets me every time. I think it's one of the few things I have known long before I even owned CDs or listened to the radio. Coil's later work brings me back to my childhood. ...the weird shit I used to do to push my limits and bend the reality in front of me. At the risk of sounding trite, I really enjoyed the dark. If I couldn't see anything, I had to rely on my ears and mouth to relate to the new plane of temporary blindness... MORE

God bless sharity. Missed out the first time 'round for Black Antlers. Naa more, tho. This version of Wraiths And Strays is from the initial 2004 CDR and is taken from a different concert than the version that appears on Black Antlers released in 2006(that being Paris). Slightly less full quality of recording than the "official" release, still a good insight to the live sound of Coil. Too, less Balance in this version, but a good start. OOP as far as I know. Enjoy.
