So here's the deal. A few years back I wrote a novel entitled Long Way Back. It's the story of a guy who has a profound religious experience as a child and a profound tragedy as an adult, and how punk rock helps bring him back to life again. The ending of this book is the best thing I've ever written, and I'm really proud of the whole thing. It's a quick, easy read, and, I think, fun and uplifting. It's really a love letter to music--the music that saw me through not ... MORE

Harmony in My Head

Blog post image preview I've fielded a number of notes in the last couple of days from friends, well-wishers and regular readers expressing their concern about the last couple of posts on my weblog (to say nothing of the overall tone of my entries for the last six months). Let me assure you all, I'm absolutely fine. Sure, I'm down in the mouth about my current circumstances, but fret not. I'm bloodied but unbowed. Moreover, while I may be currently in a tight spot, it should be noted that there a... MORE

Right, so I know this is probably a redundant post ... & I know this is a song constantly covered by so many different bands the list must be endless at this point ... but has that _ever_ stopped me before ... NOPE !!! ;) I still remember the day in jr high, very sunny, on the back of the bus heading home ... Mike Smith, the youngest & cutest of the Smith clan had me give it a listen. He had already introduced me to Dead Kennedys & Suicidal Tendencies & the Sex Pisto... MORE

Friday night was spent at a bar/club in the West End drinking and wishing a friend and colleague the best of success on his future enterprises (leaving do).
Hence this catch-up post

Well you tried it just for once found it all right for kicks
But now you found out that it's a habit that sticks
And you're an orgasm addictyou're an orgasm addict
Sneaking in the back door with dirty magazines
Now your mother wants to know what all those stains on your jeans
And you're an or

The Buzzcocks - Why Can't I Touch It?

(9)
This was a song from my childhood (8th grade) that got a lot of play in my tapedeck. Heard it in a diner in L.A. a couple months ago and flipped out on it again. Almost better the 2nd time around!

So you say you are not an addict?

Blog post image preview So here we are Sunday night, and MOG is back up and running. Almost a whole day without our beloved MOG, and you are still trying to say you are not addicted. I have a feeling many of you have been spending a better part of your day staring at a little hamster by the name of Schloopy. I can say for myself that I had tried numerous times to get on, and was disappointed everytime I was denied. I made up a little chart so you can see where you fall in amongst us addicts. Ti... MORE

Buzzcocks are rivalled only by the early Beatles in writing short, punchy, catchy gems about love. Call 'em punk, or pop-punk if you must, but I call it genius.

I always have mixed feelings when I hear a commercial using a song by one of my old favorite artists. On the one hand, I get the smug, superior "I knew this song before it was cool and before it was ever used for marketing" feeling; but on the other hand, I also get the sick, depressed "Oh god, this great song is being used to sell [whatever]" feeling. (Sometimes the choices are just laughable, such as Royal Caribbean using Iggy's _Lust For Life_ -- nothing says fun-time... MORE

:::the rock band that i wanna be in:::

every time we listen a good record or watch a great rock band live, you can think "oh... i would love to play in that band... i can donate my entire organs just to be part of that".... but let's face it... let's put our feet down... everyone's got a particular personality and we've gotta know where and with whom we can fit in... so i've always think about that... in my fantasies, in which rock band that i like, i can fit in?..... where can i feel confortable?..... which... Sad but true, my friends. The Buzzcocks, known in their prime for their brash youthfulness, are now own a retirement ad. The spot features "Everybody's Happy Nowadays." What does that tell us? You tell me.
