AMG Review of Burl Ives' Animal Folk
Bruce Eder
All Music GuideAfter leaving Decca Records, Burl Ives moved to Disneyland Records for a pair of albums, this one and a collection of lullabies. Burl Ives' Animal Folk is cute and clever -- it's almost worth owning just for the opening song, "The Whale", which sets its playful lyrics to the tune of "Dixie" as played on a solo guitar -- other songs use more elaborate accompaniment. As with virtually everything Ives did during the first 30 years of his career, the fun factor plays a big role in the appeal.
