The musicians who are heard on this LP with clarinetist Buddy DeFranco (pianist Jorge Navarro, guitarist Richard Lew, bassist Jorge Lopez-Ruiz and drummer Osvaldo Lopez) from a concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina may not be known in the United States, but their fine playing inspires the clarinetist to come up with lengthy and frequently exciting improvisations. DeFranco really stretches out on "Mood Indigo," "Street of Dreams," "The Song Is You" and an 11-minute "Scrapple from the Apple," making this set well worth acquiring by fans of straight-ahead jazz and DeFranco's boppish clarinet.
