Much of Brian "Buckethead" Carroll's popularity has risen through his temporary stint as the guitarist for AXL Rose's makeshift post millennium disaster that he is still stubbornly referring to as Guns N Roses. However, if you were a fan of Buckethead's work prior to this, his inclusion in the group may have actually come [...]

Population Override

In my opinion, one of Buckethead's finest moments. He's done a lot of great stuff but Population Override gets me every time I listen to it. From "Unrestrained Growth" with a funky sludge breakdown to the last track "..." ending the album on a bluesy note, the album finds balance throughout while skipping from metal to funk to blues to ambient guitar noodling without breaking concentration. Tru...

...in Northampton, MA on this date in 1997...Now this was a fun show! Buckethead gives my wife the creeps - she would have hated this show! The Iron Horse is such a small venue and we were so close to him that I kinda had the creeps, too. This band was called Giant Robot II, which included turntables, drums, bass and of course Buckethead on guitar. I have no idea how to explain this guy or his ...

Back when, when I was holed up in Terre Haute, Indiana for a month or so, I was rooming with a fellow whilst attending some classes on graphic design and such. This was about 1990 and he was very much into three musicians I had never heard of: Joe Satirani, Yngwie Malmsteen, and the band, Jane's Addiction. One righteous mixtape and a year later, I was dreaming of what Jane says, gypsy-klezmer-r...

"Colma" is a masterpiece

Buckethead might be best known for wearing that creepy mask and a KFC bucket on his head, and playing some of the fastest, noisiest, most insane-sounding experimental music out there. But to me, the (relatively) understated album "Colma" is his masterpiece. You won't come across many "guitar heroes" who are willing to tone down the rock to something this mellow and atmospheric.

Great guitar work

Buckethead has surely made up a name for himself over the past decade. It is hard to tell, however, if he draws more attention for the Bucket he wears on his head and mask on his face, or for the fretboard he so gracefully lights up. Sadly, I believe it is the first. Buckethead does an excellent job of fusing blues, rock, and hints of jazz into this album. His phrasing is beautiful, and proves ...
