Something about Old Dan Tucker gets me every time. Probably one of my favorite albums. Put together a video mashup of the live stuff I found on youtube.

When I heard the news that E Street Band keyboardist Danny Federici had died at age 58, it took quite a few minutes for the reality to sink in.
When it did, there was only one thing to do: Call the biggest Springsteen fan that I know, my old pal and former colleague Nancy. Nancy and I were like family, which is the same context in which I have always viewed the E Street Band.
Even more than the music, the band represents the noble idea of sticking together, through thick an... MORE

When I was a kid, I liked to see pictures of people in the past congregating to hear news as a community. Maybe the telegraph office would get reports on the ball game and post the scores where everyone could see, things like that. It seemed so old-fashioned, yet perfectly understandable ... even in such a filtered way, it would be nice to receive the news among others who shared your interests. We get those ball scores a dozen ways in the 21st century. You can attend th... MORE

Quick, without thinking too hard; without Googling, checking any sources, or looking at your neighbor's paper, complete this line:
And the boys from the casino dance with their shirts open
Like Latin lovers on the shore
Chasin' all _____________. Write down your answer, and read on. (pause) OK. Obviously (and for good reason) this song has been on our minds of late, and last night I was listening to a live version, on which the line is different from the one o... MORE

By now, most who care must have noted the news that Danny Federici, longtime keyboardist for Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, has passed away. If you ever heard his tender, wistful accordion on Springsteen's “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy),” he surely touched you. That was just a fraction of his contribution to the many-layered sound of the prodigious E Street Band who benefited from his rippling keyboard textures throughout Springsteen’s discography, up to and in... By now just about everyone has heard the news that Dan Federici lost his battle with cancer yesterday. For those who might not be aware what all the fuss is about, here's the first part of Kitty's Back from the 1975 Hammersmith, Odeon show in London. Or, imagine what this would be like without Federici's organ setting the opening grace note: Springsteen called him Phantom Dan. At times, it was hard to know he was even there. But the music wouldn... MORE

Longtime organist and keyboard player for Bruce Springsteen, Danny Federici died Thursday (April 17) afternoon after a three year battle with melanoma. He was 58.
Federici career spanned 40 years in the E Street Band. His last show with Springsteen and the E Street band was the March 20th show in Indianapolis. "Danny and I worked together for 40 years — he was the most wonderfully fluid keyboard player and a pure natural musician. I loved him very much ... we gr... MORE

With the Pennsylvania democratic primaries on the horizon, rock legend Bruce Springsteen has officially caught Obamamania. This is the signed message Bruce left on his official website earlier...
“Senator Obama, in my view, is head and shoulders above the rest. He has the depth, the reflectiveness, and the resilience to be our next President. He speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my music for the past 35 years, a generous nation with a citizenry willing to tackle n... MORE

Although he's not really pushing his latest album any longer ... it's been out for quite some time ... he played 8 songs from it the first night, 7 the second night. Point being, he's not ignoring the new stuff. Nor is the new stuff crap that you tolerate so you can hear the golden oldies ... Magic isn't the best album he ever made, but it doesn't suck, and many of the Magic songs work v.well in concert, from the psychedelic guitar freakout of "Gypsy Biker" to the soft, menac... MORE

I thought this was the best Bruce show I'd been to since at least the Reunion Tour in 1999, maybe since the Tunnel of Love Tour in 1988. The key word was "fun" ... if you're one of those who prefers the more serious side of Bruce, you would have liked the show, but this was for those of us who love the goofy. Many of the "audibles" (changes from the written set list) were clearly Bruce responding to the fun-loving energy of the band and the crowd ... "Sherry Darling" was the ... MORE
