The Cool Kids One thing Outside Lands seemed short of was some of the more rap and hip hop artists and electronic DJs selections. Unlike Coachella with its expansive electronic dance tent and Lollapalooza with an assortment of hip hop artists and dance stages, this festival was for the most part a lot of white folk and rock artists (even some forgotten ones- like Cake anyone?)- save a token rapper or two (Lupe Fiasco) and a splattering of world music (thank you Manu... I really miss BSS. It’s been years since I crushed hard on You Forgot It In People and I’m still not over it. I hope I never do. I also probably miss them because it’s been 3 years since they’ve put out a proper release, instead busying themselves with supporting the continual off-shooting side projects [...]

More musical poetry for my english project. Yay.I learned the truth when I was young, one day during dusk and summerClouded over by those antichrist television bluesIt’s the end of the world as we know itPlastered up on the green and grey screenThe coup of Haiti, the destruction of the wallPink bullets flying over the fieldsIt’s twisted when you find out that caring is creepyStrange when the perfect situation’s to see pretty girls make gravesPlans get complex in this post... This is a band I can't believe I wasn't listening to earlier. I've slapped myself twice today for not giving them a listen when my flatmate recommended them a while back. I'm absolutely hooked on "You Forgot It In People". Amazing stuff. I picked up this acoustic track of "Almost Crimes", check it out if you've never heard of BSS or if you already love them and just want to admire their greatness Top 5 Canadian artists/bands:Neil YoungLeonard CohenJoni MitchellAracade Fi... i was browsing through some old cds the other day when i came across "you forgot it in people" by broken social scene: one of my favorite cds ever. the tracks are so fun and fluid that you just cant resist. "pacific theme" is the perfect music to listen to while doing anything. so very relaxing, along with "looks just like the sun". "capture the flag" is such a beautiful opening of shimmering noise. while "almost crimes" and "stars and sons" supply the meat for this awesom... MORE
ahhhh. i'm drowning in a sea of latin noun endings and conjugations. ego auxilium indigeo. other than that...i've discovered that music can really give people words to express how they're feeling when they just don't know what to do. for example, my friend's dad passed away this summer and she's been really closed off and bitter ever since. we've tried to get through to her but no one really got anywhere...until i gave her my christmas present. i took 75 of my curr... I hate New Year's eve. It's one of those holidays that makes you feel like a jerk if you're doing what you always happen to do on a Sunday, Tuesday, or whatever night. I found myself in my studio around 9:30pm on Sunday playing around with some loop ideas and what not. I was practicing my cover of Lover's Spit by Broken Social Scene, and then started making up something new. I erased all the loops to the Broken Social Scene track I had recorded, and broke it down to ju... MORE
Probably the most beautiful and well done video I've ever seen. Goes well with the video for "Lover's Spit" of course. I could watch it over and over again and not get bored. Simply amazing.
So I've been seeing these guys everywhere on MOG. Apparently EVERYONE likes them, so I downloaded an album. So far so good. If this keeps up (I'm not even through the first song, but I like what I hear) I shall be pleased as... well as pleased as I can be about finding a new good band. ;) ... The second song (which has just started) is interesting in the ways I like it. This might very well make my autumn playlist. It's nice and low-key. Anyway, I know this is n... MORE
... so I'm lying in bed listening to Broken Social Scene.
I'd heard them before, but I never actually bought an album of theirs until recently.
I have to say, it far exceeds any expectations I may have had...
Here's to only getting 5 hours of sleep tonight.
Broken Social Scene, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Minus The Bear and Neutral Milk Hotel, I'm having a hard time getting involved with any of you. But this video makes me want to try harder.

So I'm here set to try on Broken Social Scene for the first time. I bring up their 2002 album "You Forgot It In People" on my music purchasing thing I use and start previewing songs. The first thin I here is something that sounds like the main riff from Pink Floyd's "Breathe". Needless to say I am NOT impressed. Things get better as it goes along and I may end up getting this album for further investigation. I can't say that they are blowing me away but they have some... MORE
