My favorite received gift this holiday was the Brightblack Morning Light record. I was especially excited about the little sheet that came with the record that tells you how to download the mp3s. "The best of both worlds!" I thought. A couple of weeks ago I took said sheet out, placed it by my computer, and walked away. This was a bad idea, because it's gone now, and I can't find it anywhere. 2006 was Brightblack Morning Light and Joanna Newsom. Nonetheless I am not really a freak folkster. So now I need something with bass lines!

Just saw one of the best shows of the year at the First Unitarian Church in Philly this past Sunday (June 25th, '06)... Brightblack Morning Light played with my good friends, Espers (and Mairee Sioux opening). Those guys were tapping into some powerful vibes. Two drum kits, guitar, Fender Rhodes and super processed vocals... They got into a heavy groove for the packed, sweaty house. Super mellow, with very simple progressions but way into subtlety. On Tuesday I got back to California from relative musical obscurity (also known as Western Europe). Aside from the random instance of hearing an apartment in the tiny residential area of Venice play "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley on repeat, I've been completely out of touch with what's going on with music for the past month.
