Digital Ash in a Digital Urn is designed to be the musical polar opposite to the simultaneously-released I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning, to be the ambitious, modernistic electronic record that stands in contrast to the sepia-toned, classicist acoustic LP. The production and arrangements may have changed, but Conor Oberst's preference to lyrics over music remains the same. Nevertheless, there is more variety and dynamicism on Digital Ash, which makes it a more interesting listen than its companion, even if it's hard not to escape the feeling that the album is Bright Eyes' take on the Postal Service's Give Up.
First off, we sat slightly left of the center in the 3rd row. What amazing seats! I really liked the venue(Town Hall in NYC) It fit plenty of people but, with use of a large balcony to do so, it did not feel lake a huge place.Gillian WelchGillian really held her own as an opening act for a band/artist that many attendees consider a God. Her songwriting worked very very good live. Her accompanyi...
meh....i just discovered that Conor's spring tour DOESN'T inlcude a show in PDX oregon. this upsets me greatly. Although he is playing in Seattle on March 11th which is a Sat night, so there's a possibility that i might be able to drive up for the show. alskdjaldjlajdajldjsaldjlajd!
Really odd. Browsing through my feeds and I come across the new HD commcercial for Mutiny Bikes, which can be found here. As some might know, I mogged about the Bright Eyes song "Time Code" yesterday. The new commercial for Mutiny Bikes uses that song (along with some kick-ass riding by Joe Simon). Very strange indeed.
I can't of any song more amazing every time I hear it. The lyrics, the beat, the completely random noises.Death data entry, ant hill law.Encoded arc,our common cause.Drink liquid clocks, till i see god.Crystal display, can't turn it off.Shh-sh don't talk, don't talk.I have to admit I wasn't totally into Digital Ash In A Digital Urn when I first heard it, but it totally grew on me, probably thanks...
It's taken a while, but I finally got around to acquiring/listening to Digital Ash in a Digital Urn. (Thanks Lala.com!) I think I was burned out on Bright Eyes when it was first released, so I passed on it and the accompanying I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning, which I now regret doing.I really like this album, which is chock full of Conor Oberst's accomplished songwriting and really is not (quite)...
Started out my morning with some Brazilian Girls (LOVE it Katerina DAHLINK), moved into my Motown Grooves (Cody_B whadddup ?!?), then it was onto (horror of horrors) Christmas tunes like "The Grinch, Dominick the Donkey, I Tawt I Taw Ol' Tanty Claus" & some tunes from The Fab Four, then somehow settled comfortably into Bright Eyes..... WHERE IS MY MIND TODAY ?!?_(will tell you about my nearly 1...
the holidays are here, winter and the days it brings that transcend personal beliefs, whatever we celebrate (or not celebrate) there is something going on in these days. the year is ending, the weather is stark and chilled (even in southern california), and i think we all slip in to a state of reflection.this has been a rough year for me, on the tail of about five rough years. that said, i find...
"but i can't help it now looking for faces in the clouds i got some friends i barely see but we're all planning to meet we'll lay in bags as dead as leaves all together for eternity."this song, and the video, soothes my "i should be too old for this" blues this morning. it makes me want to grab my package of multi-colored sharpie pens and tag the world around me. perhaps today it would just be ...
i used to have love for a guy who not only is involved with a wonderful girl but who also lives half the nation away... ok, i still have love for him. unfortunately, this is the healthiest romantic relationship i allow myself -or see straight- so for that, and for ofMuskegon, here is a tune that allows me to dream awake."i wanna be the shower in the morning, thatwakes you up and makes you cle...

This Is just a great song to begin with. I think it might be my favorite. What makes this song even better is seeing it live. Now that is a sight to behold.
