Come to think of it, Brian Jonestown Massacre leader Anton Newcombe was giving away his music online (I mean like the whole catalog of some 13 albums) for free years before Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails' recent headline-grabbing internet releases. It was all part of the anarchic, "keep music evil" mindset of Newcombe, who's pop persona is equal parts Johnny Rotten and Roky Erickson.

Back during my days as a cocktail waitress at NYC 's Mercury Lounge Brian Jonestown Massacre frontman Anton Newcombe once told me he wanted to kiss the mole off my face, and then proceeded to order something I can't remember. Maybe it was water.
Since those days it seems Newcombe has been sitting pretty in Liverpool, England and Reykjavik, Iceland writing the psychedelic cult-band's thirteenth full-length album, My Bloody Underground. The new album will be released Apri... MORE

Is Anton a genius? Is he insane? Is he just trying to make a name for himself any way possible? Who knows.
BJM have had a love hate relationship with themselves and their audience for years. Some shows are incredible and others suck. Band members seem to come and go. All of their albums are killer, but I feel this one flows the best. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knew of the girl's name who sings this song: Anenome. She did a couple other BJM songs i think, including Wisdom from Strung Out On Heaven. She's not normally part of the band, but I do believe on the documentary "DiG!" they men... MORE

I updated this mix with suggestions from other Moggers (thanks!) that I could find on eMusic/ iTunes. I was originally going for something dark and creepy (Eurythmics' Jennifer, Jennifer's Veil, Jennifer's Body and Jenny was a Friend of Mine), but I found some catchy uptempo numbers like: Jenny Come On by Dressy Bessy, Jennifer by Brian Jonestown Massacre, 27 Jennifers, and Jennifer by Bikeride. I'm giving it to my friend Jen who just turned (gasp) 30. Jennifer by: Eu... MORE

so, does anyone have a homemade DVD of all the BJM parts of Dig? that would be awesome. that, and the part where Anton hears Cortney's "new song" in the car. man, the look on Anton's face is priceless. wish there was a youtube clip of that scene. so yeah, i'm a late bloomer and have been listening to a lot of BJM recently, even though I've seen them like 3-4 times I never bought their albums. i'm a jerk, i know....
