I was recently introduced to Brett Dennen through a friend, she showed me Dennen's "Ain't no Reason", and I told her that I hadn't heard a song with dumber lyrics since Lil' John. I mean, read this, the first part of his song. It doesn't make any sense at all! The thing about this kid's music - is I have heard it before. I heard it in Bob Dylan, in Harvest, in Bread and in many other artists....the difference here is - 20 years from now - on a note on this blog...someone will write a note like mine...and he will be the first name listed as something someone heard once. This is classic music - knows no time, no shelter...and yet...will ride the hearts of millions for many years to come. He'll get there...I am looking forward ... MORE

I mean, the kid has the look of a barefoot, overgrown Cabbage Patch Kid and sings about both love lost and our pathetic government, yet there were 70% screaming girls in the audience. How is that? I think it's because his words are tender and sincere, and his voice is unique.... MORE
