I was recently introduced to Brett Dennen through a friend, she showed me Dennen's "Ain't no Reason", and I told her that I hadn't heard a song with dumber lyrics since Lil' John. I mean, read this, the first part of his song. It doesn't make any sense at all! ...Darlin' do not fear what you don't really know. Brent Dennen's sweet lyrics are perfect to memorize, and sing along to. I've never seen him play live, but I hope to catch him at the Cat's Cradle next Wed in Carrboro, NC. I'll add my impressions from that show to this post if I end up going. Never heard of him before but saw this guy last night at the Warfield, he opened up for John Butler Trio. While I liked JBT, I loved this guy. He has such a nice voice, almost yodels in some songs. The thing about this kid's music - is I have heard it before. I heard it in Bob Dylan, in Harvest, in Bread and in many other artists....the difference here is - 20 years from now - on a note on this blog...someone will write a note like mine...and he will be the first name listed as something someone heard once. I saw Brett Dennen tonight at the El Ray Theater. Dennen lives here in LA, and he was pretty awesome! I recommend seeing him if you get the chance. At the very least, check out some of his music. Tonight, he had a band with a guy who could get sounds that I've never heard before out of a normal guitar. You should have seen some of the ways he played that thing! Say Xavier Rudd and Brett at the Aladdin this year, went back for more when Brett did his own gig a couple of months again downtown. Love this vocals. The concert wasn't as good because the band overplayed his vocals.. but enjoy this one on here. Is there really any reason?
