We had a friend over recently, and invariably we started talking about my current job situation, or - more specifically - the lack thereof. "God, it must be so awful," they said, "you must just feel so shitty!" I smiled and nodded politely, but they continued, almost willing me to concede that yes, I'm at my lowest ebb and all that. I've actually had a few friends do this. "Dude, if I were you, I'd be unable to get out of bed!" etc. etc. What am I supposed to do? Hang a big a... MORE

I absolutely love Brand New and am looking forward to seeing them a second time this fall. Hooray for the songwriting genius of Jesse Lacey, 2.5 hour chronological setlists, awesome lighting (yes, lighting), and great opening bands!
Brand New has a bunch of demos floating around on the internet as a set called Fight Off Your Demons (pre-Devil and God and post-Deja Entendu I believe?). To commemorate last year's show (My friend Laura and I both agreed it was the best sh... MORE

I find myself more attracted to music with mature content and lyrics rather than catchy pop crap such as Panic! At The Disco. I am blown away by the transformation of Brand New from a moderately pop catchy band with their first CD "Your Favorite Weapon" to an intensely lyrically heavy and dark mature band that rocks. I think the fact that the masses are less mature and gravitate to immature music is the reason Brand New has not become as big as Fall Out Boy.

The Archers Bows Are Broken is one of many great tracks from The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me by Brand New

Ok I once believed myself to be a huge Brand New fan, but after buying their new album "The Devil and God are raging inside me" im very disappointed. All of the songs seem kind of...boring. Now don't get me wrong their previous albums were amazing. They never leave my car's cd holder. Like Deja Entendu, and Your Favorite Weapons, these albums are golden, but this new one...not so much. So somebody please tell me if I'm missing something in this new album, because I refuse to ... MORE

on Wed. Brand New played a great show at Lupos. they have been having a good tour run, it seems like they are selling out alot of their venues, which was the case tonight, it was just swamped with affected teenage kids. when my friend and i showed up 3 hours early, the line was down washington street and under well under the drinking age. my friend however, is in touch with the pheonix, so it felt kind of cool to be let in through the front door in front of everybody, but it ... On a rather nice, sunny day in Burlington, Vermont, I stood outside of Higher Grounds ballroom along with what seemed like EVERY student from the local high school (and here I am, going on 19 this saturday...). Now, to begin with, I'll be honest. I had, at that time, heard Brand New's new album once through from a friend. I ended up at the show when 4 friends of mine had bought tickets, and one of them backed out, my point being that I went with almost no expectations. ... MORE

Like most people I know, I've been getting pretty sick of the constantly checking my myspace page, only to find the thrill of seeing that "New Comment" message rapidly losing its excitement to spam and ringtone garbage.... Although, I will miss all those great time wasting serveys you can fill out and post.. I wont miss reading some dumb rant by one of my ex girlfriends asking me to comment about some picture she had just posted, probably of her being drunk and puking in a bu... MORE

Below is a fantastic video of the fantastic band Brand New playing their fantastic instrumental Welcome to Bangkok (yes, it's a Bjork reference) off their fantastic album The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me.

Okay, so I'm a little late getting this review out, but it's the first chance I've had to write anything up. I drove to Chicago Tuesday night to see Brand New play at the House of Blues. Never been there? Take a look here. For the record, I'd never been there before either. The floor is a lot smaller than it looks in the pics, but it's an impressive place to see a band. Which is good, because I'll be here to see Placebo next month! :) Two opening bands on this nig... MORE

Much like Sesame Street, today's post is brought to you by two things. Not the Brand New song I've tagged on, though - that's just gratuitous. One, I'm reading Rob Sheffield's Love Is A Mix Tape, and it's awesome. I'm only three chapters in and I love it. Almost makes me want to trade my iPod for a Lloyd Dobler-esque boom box. I can't recommend it highly enough. Two, I turned 29 on Monday. I'm a sucker for premature nostalgia anyway, but birthdays really bring that ... MORE
