We've expressed a deep love for the Bowerbirds on numerous occasions...we love 'em. Plain. Simple. Great. Just like their music. They've released a new video for the excellent In Our Talons...Bowerbirds - In Our TalonsPrevious:The Bowerbirds - My Oldest Memory (live in the MOKB studio)The Bowerbirds - Dark Horse (live in the MOKB studio)The Bowerbirds - Slow Down (live in the MOKB studio)...
Warning: If you hate the environment, animals, and/or crying, please don't watch this. So, Bowerbirds. So good. The earthy folkers have always deeply impressed in concert, song, vocation, and now in video. They strike me as an authen...
Apparently I have a proclivity for bands made up of couples with a penchant for non-traditional instrumentation and subject matter. About the Band:The roots of the Bowerbirds lie in the Raleigh, NC, indie rock trio Ticonderoga, who were led by singer and guitarist Phil Moore. During the recording of the trio's second album, 2005's The Heilig Levine LP, Moore took a job tracking birds for the No...
What I learned about Bowerbirds from Nova: Bowerbirds are the only known avian species in which the male builds elaborate, ornately decorated nests in an attempt to attract the female. Their nests are so carefully ornamented that some people consider them "art" in the mostly-confined-to-humans sense. These birds are, er, doing it for the chicks. What I learned about Bowerbirds from Hymns ...
The room calls to me, says were all strung out(And the beat we both stomp on the floor),While outside the leopard frogs sing sweetly. These are the hymns that today weve ignored. And all across the desert, and all up in the mountains: A wind so loud that we might never mention. And heres to my lovers hands and feet. They are the roots that will weave through the floor. And down in the dirt, in her w...
Hello there fellow moggers, it's been a while. Summer is here, and the time is right...... and while I haven't been dancing in the street per say, I have been away fishing, canoeing, camping, etc..... I've just visited e-music and grabbed some stuff. James Blackshaw, as well as The Bowerbirds. Just from a cursory listen, I really liked their sound. Now I still have 25 downloads remaining, and...
"Beneath Your Tree" is the second free mp3 release from Bowerbirds from their upcoming album, Upper Air. The track is a dual vocal attack from Phil Moore and Beth Tacular who both sing a verse of lyrics before joining together as a harmonic duo. It's a pretty fun song, with Moore (who sounds somewhat like Stephen Malkmus) and the floaty/sultry voice of Tacular blended around an accordion, acoust...
On their sophomore release Upper Air, Raleigh, North Carolina band Bowerbirds mature their homespun, American roots sound into territory untouched by the likes of kinsman such as Bon Iver and Bonnie "Prince" Billy. While both these artists' sounds are fascinating, they can, at times, be confused and slightly impenetrable. However, Bowerbirds' Beth Tacular, Phil Moore and Mark Paulson, establish...
:http://www.bowerbirds.org/I'm a sucker for backup vocals. This Bowerbirds track just made my shortlist, mainly on the strength of the "dee dee dee" bits. (The stompy rhythm and Eastern Block accordion doesn't hurt.)bq. "In Our Talons, by Bowerbirds":http://www.myspace.com/bowerbirds (streaming on myspace)They are set to record their first full-length album on Burly Time Records (a project of o...
Bowerbirds AKA Beth Tacular, Phil Moore and Matt Damron have just released their latest album 'Upper Air' (you can check out our review HERE) and now, the band have decided to travel for the rest of the year. Beginning on October 10th in Denmark, the threesome will hit Germany, France, The Netherlands, Spain and the UK, finishing on November 1st in Manchester.
When listening to Hymns For A Dark Horse you get the feeling that these songs are physical objects as much as they are ephemeral waves of vibrations, a holistic set of songs that glimmer brilliantly.~~
Beards, Opera and Smack...just your average Tuesday night out in central London then. TLOBF discovers all this and more as North Carolina's Bowerbirds play a one off show to showcase their upcoming "Upper Air" album
Bowerdbirds are set to release their sophomore LP by the name of 'Upper Air' on July 6th (and July 7th in the US) and so to build anticipation, the band have decided to release a track from it. Entitled Northern Lights, the track works with gentle, old-school folk stylistics with a unique twist and shows heaps of promise for the upcoming studio-length.
A few years back the freak-folk scene seemed to be all the rage with acts like Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom and Sufjan Stevens helping to cultivate a new brand of "Cosmic American Music". With the former helping to pave the way, a new crop of acts - that includes Woods, Megafaun and Papercuts - are percolating to the surface that are worthy of your attention. Among those bands that are meld...
