Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's new video has just hit the web. The song, entitled 'How About Thank You' is taken from the Chijimi EP, which is available via Drag City on 10" plastic. The video is directed by Mike Aho and features two kids in split-screen, attempting to win Mardi Gras beads, with Will Oldham aka BPB trapped in a "Dance Dance Revolution" arcade machine.
Will Oldham, aka Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, has offered a lot more opinions on popular culture than ever before in his latest round of interviews for his new album Beware. He called Wes Anderson a "cancer," praised Farrelly brothers movies to the A.V....
Remember the Beatles tune "Hello Goodbye"? Lyrics go something like "You say hello, and I say goodbye."Adding to his music catalog another song that starts with "I am..." (see "I Am Cinematographer" and "I a\Am Sky"), indie singer-songwriter and Allen Ginsberg beard thief Bonnie "Prince" Billy has invented his own 21st century folk version of the Beatles classic with "I Am Goodbye." Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Hey LittleI'm relaxing this Saturday morning after a really fun Friday night and Bonnie "Prince" Billy is just the sound I want to hear right now. While you may be hip to Will Oldham's new album Beware - possibly via my post on it in March - there was in fact a limited edition 10" EP released with his latest album. One of the songs featured on the EP is "Hey Little," a ...
The recent interview with Will Oldham in The Wire is coyly revealingabout his approach to the Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy moniker he has beenmaking music under for around ten years now. He describes it as quiteliterally another being he inhabits, often blending seamlessly with“Will Oldham” and not just present for his role as songwriter and performer.
Depending on who you ask, Will Oldham's show on Friday was either the most beautiful show to his Lexington in years (barring Jeff Mangum's appearance, naturally) — or a train wreck. Oldham's beautiful lyrics and his bands' well-crafted instrumentation were muddled or practically inaudible due to sound difficulties. However, I was in the front row [...]
*rating* 9.0*summary* the "Prince" releases the counterpoint to his previous masterwork, "I See A Darkness" - and leaves us wondering which is more terrifying. There are few heroes in the indie-world.In this landscape of conciousness connected almost solely on the single principle of popularity-as-poison it's near impossible for legends to manifest themselves - the bright flame of their influenc...
What is it about Will Oldham that seems to render so compelling any song on which he appears? His voice is immensely full of character, of course. But I think there is something more important still: the simple intensity of his performance."Performance" is, I think, key. Music recording technology allows musicians to splice together takes, "punch in" a re-recorded version of a vocal phrase that...

She made a sarcastic comment about me liking upbeat music on my last post...I can't have her going around ruining my hard earned reputation! So I present the saddest song I know...some call this depressing, I call it beautiful
I sometimes forget what a great songwriter Bruce Springsteen was. Or is...I don't mean to eulogize the guy, its just that I think sometimes I am guilty of overlooking him sometimes...probably because during my formative music years, he wasn't really on my radar so much...but he did pen some classics...just wanted to share this Bonnie Prince Billy version of 'Thunder Road'
I will forever associate all of Will Oldham's music with alcohol. I just love the downtrodden beauty of his songs...so stark, so beautiful. I am loving the new album...and I am getting thirsty,
