It seems as if it's been forever since I last posted. It's only been a little over a month. A storm is brewing here in Maine so I'm down for some keyboard time before I fire up the grill. I could talk about how excited I am for the new Dandy Warhol's album or how there are a lot of great summer records coming out that are going to blow up in the coming months. I could comment on the Bob Dylan biopic, "I'm Not There" that we just watched but I'm not enough of a Dylan fa... MORE
I give this a big thumbs up. Bon Iver's story is amazing, but aside from that, his entire album is absolutely solid. It will be playing for years and years... probably stuff that I will be playing as my kids grow up (I don't have kids). I was fortunate enough to have seen Bon Iver at the Independent in San Francisco. Unfortunately, the crowd cleared out after him and the headliners that night (who had been switching off headlining with Bon iver) just had a bored, chat... MORE
Bon Iver uploaded their new video with a detailed description of the circumstances surrounding its filming. The video is for "The Wolves (Act I & II)" from For Emma, Forever Ago and it was directed by Matt Amato for The Masses and filmed on location in Fall Creek, Wisconsin in January. It documents a beautiful ritual for a departed friend. Here is the video, followed by loads more details directly from Bon Iver: "The Wolves (Act I & II)" by Bon Iver:

Justin Vernon hid out in Wisconsin for a couple months meaning to do nothing but ended up cutting a great record. All sung in falsetto is the best record of the year so far. gives a very unique and folky feeling. Please check him out!

I am really liking what I am hearing. The whole album is solid. I feel like i should go spend a winter in a cabin now if it will help me make music like this.
Are you having a good winter? Justin Vernon (who named his musical project "good winter" in French) is...with the surprise success of his new album For Emma, Forever Ago Here's my interview with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver which was posted today at Popmatters. Isolation Songs: An Interview with Bon Iver's Justin Vernon Bon Iver's Justin Vernon holed up in the north Wisconsin woods to try to get his life and his music back on track ... and, in the process, almost by acc... i can't stop listening to this. and not in that casual "oh, this song is really rad and i listen to it a little more than i've been listening to everything else", but an "i've been listening to this nonstop for a few weeks and i may very well be going insane" way. which says quite a bit for bon iver, but not very much for me. ah, insanity.
My latest, greatest obsession, Bon Iver and their song 'Skinny Love'...its beautifully understated and a little haunting I think...a gorgeous tune

Justin Vernon reportedly made his new album called For Emma, Forever Ago and out early February on Jagjaguwar, in near total isolation, in a remote cabin in northern Wisconsin, surrounded by snow and trees. I've been listening to it late at night mostly, and it's really wonderful, high and ghostly and filled with otherworldly harmonies, folky maybe, but also somehow like choral church music. I'm putting up the free mp3, "Skinny Love." there's more at MySpace (http://www... MORE
I am. It's true. And unexpected. I'm almost a little annoyed with myself at the over-abundance of slightly depressing, down-tempo song selections I've been making as of late. But? Oh well? One of my favorite tracks from one of the softest, yet overwhelmingly emotional albums I've heard in a very long time. I think it has something to do with the change of seasons. P.S. Cheers to overreacting! Which I did, to an extreme extent, yesterday. Ain't we all just so e... MORE
