WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Bob Dylan

OK. A FEW WORDS ABOUT BOB DYLAN. A FEW MORE WORDS, THAT IS
29 days ago

After three listens to Bob's New Christmas cd i don't know what to say. I have been anticipating/dreading this since i first heard of it.....& nothing has been settled yet. Its a minor entry in his canon, to be sure. Somewhere to the left or right of, but definitely close by, Self Portrait. His Royal Bobness has built a career around confounding his audience & in that respect this is...

SUNDAY UNDER THE COVERS WITH HIS ROYAL BOBNESS! LAWDY MISS CLAWDY!

Bob Dylan is as much a fan of music as anyone here on the MOG. Throughout his career he has taken joy from singing the songs of others. & the last couple of decades have seen him notching it up some & covering all kinds of songs from artists in every genre. (Kindly, we won't mention his Christmas cd). A list of songs or song fragments that Bob & The Band played with at Big Pink would fill sever...

Ain't Gonna Go To Hell For Anybody

..........A track from Dylan's much maligned "Born Again" era. Yes, much maligned and unfairly so. Dylan & his gospel troupe put on some exciting incendiary(?) shows with some incredible music. This track.."I Ain't Gonna Go To Hell For Anybody" is a good case in point. A moving testament to the power of faith, the song slowly transforms from a quiet contemplative rumination to a fire & brim...

Albums We Missed, Because We Weren't Born Yet -- Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline
about 12 hours ago

I just bought a vinyl this week, and it contained an insert that said "Long Live Physical Media!" -- which got me thinking. As a way to incorporate physical media into this other-wise mp3/video-laden website, I thought I'd occasionally write about some old vinyls of mine which have cool characteristics that people who bought the album on itunes may not know. This week's selection is Bob Dylan's...

Bob Dylan Poems #17 & #21 In The New Yorker

Blog post image preview

Two Bob Dylan poems made their way into the September 22nd issue of the New Yorker. The poems, titled #17 and #21, are both from the book Hollywood Foto-Rhetoric: The Lost Manuscript, a collection of 23 Bob Dylan poems synched to photos taken by Barry Feinstein. Feinstein shot Dylan's The Times They Are A-Changin' cover, about the same time in the '60s that Dylan penned the two poems you can r...

New Jersey Prowler Non Other Than Bob Dylan

Two New Jersey cops were given a crash corse on 20th century music history when they reported on a suspicious looking man in Long Branch. After detaining Bob Dylan for lack of proper ID, the 68-year-old legend had employees at the hotel he was staying at vouch for him, reports Sky News."The policewoman was very young and did not recognise Dylan - there was another officer with her and even he d...

CONCERT REVIEW: Bob Dylan Blows A Message Through Prospect Park, Brooklyn

Bob Dylan Live: Prospect Park BrooklynListening to Dylan live today can be equated to listening to Dylan in the early 60s via transistor radio in a cornfield in Nebraska. His voice live is almost unrecognizable, like it's been dragged through tobacco fields, lugged through tired deserts of American heartland, tortured for years in circulating around smokey bars with no windows, washed out to se...

I HAVE TO POINT THIS OUT........

My good friend dermahrk said (in another thread)..."Actually, Dylan gave up politics, what, 35 years ago and hasn't written a "protest" song for a long, long time." I think it would be closer to the truth to say that Dylan backed off the simplistic blacknwhite nature of his earlier protest songs because they're obvious traps. "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" is a pounding, powerful song. Pointi...

On September 12, 1974 **Bob Dylan** walked into the studio and recorded one of the most remarkable song of his (or anyone else's) career, **If You See Her Say Hello**. A song of stark, naked emotional loss, a haunted yowl of regret as Dylan examines the still oozing scars of a shattered relationship. The song startles the listener as the narrator by turn rages, whimpers, wails an belies all ...

DOSE ANYTHING HERE SUGGEST POKEMAN? BTW: WTF IS POKEMAN?

Not much is certain about the authorship of this, most of us believe its a mostly ad-libbed one-off Dylan thing that sorta grew to a point that building a song around it (with an eye towards "real" lyrics later?) seemed like a good idea. This was recorded during the (in)famous **Bromberg Sessions**.
