Dylan rushed out New Morning in the wake of the commercial and critical disaster Self Portrait, and the difference between the two albums suggests that its legendary failed predecessor was intentionally flawed. New Morning expands on the laid-back country-rock of John Wesley Harding and Nashville Skyline by adding a more pronounced ock & roll edge. While there are only a couple of genuine classics on the record ("If Not for You," "One More Weekend"), the overall quality is quite high, and many of the songs explore idiosyncratic routes Dylan had previously left untouched, whether it's the jazzy experiments of "Sign on the Window" and "Winterlude," the rambling spoken word piece "If Dogs Run Free" or the Elvis parable "Went to See the Gypsy." Such offbeat songs make New Morning a charming, endearing record.

My general impression was that it was Dylan being an old man comfortable with his little family. When that hard drive crashed, I didn't worry about re-downloading that album. Over the past few years, however, I have started seeing New Morning more and more a...
I'm sure most of you never 'knew' FEDGE.I know I didn't. He was the only member of our community to be forced out, to my knowledge. He was abrasive, abusing, insulting and crude. But he was also incredibly insightful, and if his wit was caustic to the extreme sometime, at other times he could be awefully sensitive to perceived slights. But shortly after he left the Mogos i got one last email i...
This song stands apart from most of Dylan's work. An odd little number of considerable but lightweight charm. As light as an idea yet freighted with implied mystery, Images both goofy and sublime float by, bathed in a groove as smooth as Ahmad Jamal With an incandescent non-lingual(?)vocal provided by Maeretha Stewart.Enjoy.
