Taking the first, electric side of Bringing It All Back Home to its logical conclusion, Bob Dylan hired a full ock & roll band, featuring guitarist Michael Bloomfield, for Highway 61 Revisited. Opening with the epic "Like a Rolling Stone," Highway 61 Revisited careens through nine songs that range from reflective folk-rock ("Desolation Row") and lues ("It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry") to flat-out garage rock ("Tombstone Blues," "From a Buick 6," "Highway 61 Revisited"). Dylan had not only changed his sound, but his persona, trading the folk troubadour for a streetwise, cynical hipster. Throughout the album, he embraces druggy, surreal imagery, which can either have a sense of menace or beauty, and the music reflects that, jumping between soothing melodies to hard, bluesy ock. And that is the most revolutionary thing about Highway 61 Revisited -- it proved that ock & roll needn't be collegiate and tame in order to be literate, poetic, and complex.

This Halloween season (and it has become a full-on season, for the love of Hallmark, with kiddie trick-or-treating trumped by costume-clad adults indulging in ribald chicanery at parties and public events), the scariest sight I’ve seen so far has nothing to do with witches or skeletons or glowering jack-o'-lanterns. But vampires are definitely involved. The horror was couched in a video clip of .

Bob Dylan has got a new one in his bag. The 67 year-old legendary rocker, currently on tour in Europe, will release Together Through Life on April 28th, and the album cover's got some raunchy backseat car action. Dylan's last studio album was 2006's Modern Times, which peaked at Number One on the Billboard Top 200 and went platinum. The last prior Dylan album to do both was 1975's Desire.Sittin...

And I need something mindless to do. So here goes...Step 1: Put your music player on random.Step 2: Post the first line (or so, some are hard) from the first 21 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.Step 3: Post and let everyone guess what SONG AND ARTIST the lines come from.Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly (No lyric hunting! That is cheating!).Step 5: ...

bq. Seven simple rules for a life in hiding:bq. One, never trust a cop in a raincoat. bq. Two, beware of enthusiasm and of love, each is temporary and quick to sway. bq. The Ap reported today that sales of digital music have failed to make up for slumping cd sales.. and in that release stated, "legitimate music sales did not come close to offsetting the billions of dollars being lost to music piracy, with illegal downloads outnumbering the number of tracks sold by a factor of 20-to-1."At some point, perhaps, someone should send the message that, uh, maybe they...

No doubt you've heard of the new Bob Dylan biopic that's being released this September? Haven't you? (WHAT?! YOU HAVEN'T?!)It's very big news. Very big indeed. It's called I'm Not There and it follows the life and times of Bob Dylan throughout the decades. Only, the catch is, he's played by five different actors. (And one actress) I know, crazy, right? It's a bit of a change for biopics, ...
