Lateness, according to Edward Said, is characterized by a kind of artistic innovation in the midst of physical infirmity. Lateness is a denial of the unifying artistic gesture, the stubborn refusal to issue a final proclamation.

I heard this item on NPR's All Things Considered and just had to share it. You must hear these people wax hippie poetic over Dylan at the annual Dylan's birthday celebration in the Northeast Indian town of Shillong. DO NOT FAIL to click on the link on the left side of the screen for Darrell Diengdoh's rendition of "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright"! http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.ph...

According to England's Daily Express, the duet between Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan is a go. The pair are planning to go into the studio sometime over the summer.A source said, "Paul has a home in California not too far from Bob's so the idea is for the two to meet when Paul is in California over the summer. They'll obviously want to work in privacy and it's felt one of their homes will be th...

[Photo credit: F. Antolín Hernandez/Stoned69, licensed via Creative Commons]Today, Bob Dylan (b. Robert Allen Zimmerman, 5/24/1941), the famed American singer-songwriter, turns 68! What am I doing in honor of Bobbie D's birthday? Well...I'm reading Behind the Shades Revisited, by Clinton Heylin: I bought this book sometime last year, though it has been sitting up on my shelf untouched until las...

The Bob Dylan lyrics from his teenage years that are up for auction may not really be his. It has been pointed out that the words are very close to Hank Snow's song which shares its name with Dylan's, Little Buddy. The auction house has updated their site with this information.Rapper LL Cool J will star this fall in the new CBS series NCIS: Los Angeles. Starring with him are Chris O'Donnell,...

Bob Dylanby Angela Zimmerman • May 15, 2009 Bob DylanTogether Through Life(Columbia, 2009)At the time of writing this review, a few weeks after Together Through Life, Bob Dylan's 33rd studio album, hit the digital and physical distribution shelves, it has already gone to #1 on the US and UK charts. No big surprise there; his albums have usually done well, and his last, 2006's Modern Times, w...

Now I know why "Beyond Here Lies Nothing" was the first track released off Dylan's latest album, Together Through Life. It's the best song here, with a spirited arrangement, some tough blues guitar and a decent vocal performance. Paired with the black and white still photos of the video, it becomes nearly a keeper, that is if you don't go back and give "Highway 61 Revisited" a revisit.I've only...

Depending on who's doing the counting Together Through Life is somewhere between the 33rd and 46th studio album of Bob Dylan's long and illustrious career. Pitching in on this one are members of The Heartbreakers as well as Los Lobos. That diverse input is reflected in the music. Even with all of these inputs and influences, the album has an overwhelming sense of been there/done that. Some of

There are people, influential people, that say Bob Dylan’s entered somewhat of a renaissance. On paper, it’d be hard to disagree. His last two albums have sold as many copies as his entire ‘80s and ‘90s output combined- and this in the midst of a collapsing industry, while old-school rock…

--- - |- simply because we haven't done a covers post in some time, and because the clair and cher songs have been repeating 'round here recently, and because the new frontiers' version of gillian welch's excellent "look at miss ohio" turned up in our box the other day, we decided that these six recordings, all of which we enjoy - if for distinct reasons - and think you will too, should be ho...

Yeah, yeah, I know. Its not like Bob Dylan doesn't get enough attention. But more often than not you'll just hear the same old songs over and over until you start to forget that there was more to him than subterranean homesick blues. This track sends shivers down my spine.

My good friend dermahrk said (in another thread)..."Actually, Dylan gave up politics, what, 35 years ago and hasn't written a "protest" song for a long, long time." I think it would be closer to the truth to say that Dylan backed off the simplistic blacknwhite nature of his earlier protest songs because they're obvious traps. "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" is a pounding, powerful song. Pointi...

Two Bob Dylan poems made their way into the September 22nd issue of the New Yorker. The poems, titled #17 and #21, are both from the book Hollywood Foto-Rhetoric: The Lost Manuscript, a collection of 23 Bob Dylan poems synched to photos taken by Barry Feinstein. Feinstein shot Dylan's The Times They Are A-Changin' cover, about the same time in the '60s that Dylan penned the two poems you can r...
