The North Carolina-DC-NYC band, Black Taj, who I'm not sure if they have ever played in California before, includes former Polvo members, Steve Popson and Dave Brylawski. one of my all-time favorite bands was the north carolina-based band polvo. if you are unfamiliar with their catalog, there has never really been a band that sounded like polvo, and there probably never will. the band's sound is nearly impossible to describe, but completely unmistakable. nearly everyone heard the eastern influence in their music, and you could point to sonic youth and glenn branca for their guitar influences. they often were (wrongly) called math rock....
