Heaven and Hell

Many had left Black Sabbath for dead at the dawn of the '80s, and with good reason -- the band's last few albums were not even close to their early classics, and original singer Ozzy Osbourne had just split from the band. But the Sabs had found a worthy replacement in former Elf and Rainbow singer Ronnie James Dio, and bounced back to issue their finest album since the early '70s, 1980's Heaven and Hell. The band sounds reborn and re-energized throughout. Several tracks easily rank among Sabbath's all-time best, such as the vicious album opener, "Neon Knights," the moody, mid-paced epic "Children of the Sea," and the title track, which features one of Tony Iommi 's best guitar riffs. With Heaven and Hell, Black Sabbath were obviously back in business. Unfortunately, the Dio-led version of the band would only record one more studio album before splitting up (although Dio would return briefly in the early '90s). One of Sabbath's finest records.

Return to Heaven and HellAn Interview with Black Sabbath Bass Player Geezer Butler by Jeb Wright, February 2007In 1979, the world of Heavy Metal was shook on it’s ear with the news that Ozzy Osbourne had been ousted by his own band members. It seemed Black Sabbath would be no more. However, brewing behind the scenes was a melding of Metal legends never before seen. From the mist left over from .

Dio fronted, and they enjoyed a brief renaissance. It didn't last. That's Vinnie Appice on drums. This was the beginning of Bill Ward's steep slide into drug and alcohol addiction.

TV's Biggest Moneymakers...

American Idol regularly attracts the biggest audience in TV. No surprise it generates the biggest ad dollars in TV, too: Advertisers pay an average of $745,000 for a 30-second spot on News Corp.'s Fox network. But big audiences alone don't guarantee big money. In American Idol's case, its average audience of 32.4 million includes many of the famously fickle young folks that advertisers will pay ...

Your back's to the wall!I don't know why but I love that lyric.Just bought this cd. I didn't want to get the Dio greatest hits collection, because I still believe in the album. Anyways, it's pretty awesome. Ozzy may write better lyrics and be one of the biggest rock personalities ever, but he doesn't have the pipes that Dio has.

I bought tickets a bit late so I'm way stage left, but I think it'll be okay. Megadeth opens, haven't seen them since '84 with Motorhead at the Santa Monica Civic. It's a great night for heavy metal/hard rock because Machine Head fit's in nicely between Black Sabbath (yes I call it fucking Black Sabbath!) and Dave Mustaine's umpteenth configuration of Megadeth. Should be a hoot for all us olde...

I love all kinds of music. My friends down the street in 1979, well, they did not. I felt lucky that I could really get into whatever was around and listen to my "secret" music in private. As hard as I tried , I could not persuade my friends to like Elvis Costello or X RAy Specs. It wasn't gonna happen! So I was more public about hard rock bands with hair than any of the other stuff I liked. I ...

This album is a good example that Black Sabbath could still rock their asses off without Ozzy Osbourne. in my opinion, it holds up just as well as Paranoid or Master of Reality. Ronnie James Dio gives a commanding vocal performance that forces any self-respecting metal head to flash devil horns in approval. Fuck yeah
