Dear Black Rebel Motorcycle Club,

(270)
Blog post image preview thank you for rocking. For rocking my socks and my fishnets. For making rock so sexy. For rocking even more than this glorious pencil-sharpener: For making me bounce off the walls.Come to Greece, you can sleep on my couch. Don't make me come all the way to San Fransisco and drag you back to my cave.On second thought... ;)Rockingly and primitively yours,Anna.

Sunday Sampler: Good Ol Fashioned Roots Rock pt.2

(95)
Artist: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club Album: Baby 81 Track: Weapon of Choice Heavily reminiscent of Stereophonics replacing the deeper growl for a more nasally drawl. But it works. A hit or miss band, but this song shows what they can do when their on their game.

Victims of the iPod

Free music video of Need Some Air (2)
I love my iPod. It is trite and simple but the darn thing just does what I want it to do and it does it well. The use of the device does have some unintended consequences.

For me the biggest of those is that I tend to to get "locked" into the songs on the iPod. I've got the mighty 4 gig type unit so my process has been that each of my 350-ish CD's get 1-2 songs and certain favored discs (London Calling) and some miscellaneous Greatest Hits albums get more than 2. This re... MORE

Baby 81, that is. Just so you know, I'm no music journo or insider, surrounded by advance releases, so when I get something early, it's pretty exciting. When a wonderful, special, beautiful person up and sent me the new Black Rebel Motorcycle Club album, months ahead of its release, I got pretty excited. See, you must understand, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club came along just as I was noticing the hole in my life from the lack of new Jesus & Mary Chain material. Their deb... MORE

BRMC: PUSHIN' FORWARD BACK

(67)
Blog post image preview Over the course of four albums, Los Angeles-based rockers The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club have traversed a career path that sounds like a rock industry cliché: the impressive debut (self-titled) that garnered critical raves of the “saviors of rock” variety (lately bestowed upon the much less impressive Arctic Monkeys) and favorable comparisons to bands like The Jesus and Mary Chain and Love & Rockets; the “difficult” second album, Take Them On, On Your Own, which didn’t se... Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Pitchfork gave these guys a 4.5....but I am not that smart and actually sort of enjoyed the album. Here's my review from May Harp. Black Rebel Motorcycle ClubBaby 81RCASince their striking 2001 debut, BRMC has struggled with label problems, lifestyle issues and customs regulations, and oscillated between midnight Jesus & Mary Chain drones and roots-bluesy, Zeppelin-esque Howls. Now, with the third full-length, named after an infant who survived the tsunami to be claime... MORE

EMCD at work - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's new album Baby 81

Weapon of Choice BRMC came along for me when there was a real hole in my musical existence, a lack of feedback-drenched new music. The Jesus and Mary Chain had broken up, and no one had really taken on their gauntlet, until the first time I ever heard "Love Burns" and just knew that this was a band whose output I could love. If you haven't done so, check out the debut album, it's a relentless rock beast from the opening salvos of "Love Burns", "Red Eyes And T... MORE

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club Live

Blog post image preview Caught them at the same venue last year and they've really taken it up a notch since then. New drummer is a finesse machine, laying a hypnotic backdrop, never overplaying or overhitting. And utility guy moved from bass, to guitar to keys seemlessly, really helping to fill out the sound. Great rock show, the songwriting just keeps getting better, and the juxtaposition of the acoustic/harmonica numbers from the last record and some of the moodier harder numbers provides a ... MORE

All Music just gave it a pretty scathing review and then granted it 3.5 stars out of 5 (compared to 4 out of 5 for each of their previous albums) which sounds like the reviewer dislikes them more than they dislike the album. But, I think I'd prefer to hear what other MOGgers think. So, what's the word?

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club "Baby 81" preview...kinda

Blog post image preview
Really I don't know what it is about Black Rebel Motorcycle Club that instills so much hate towards them. Is that they came of age in so called "New Rock Revolution" amid the ranks of The Strokes and Kings of Leon, or maybe it's that 2/3rds of this band so desperately wish they were British (drummer Nick Jago actually is), or maybe it's their utter disregard stick to one genre-label-style of music. Or maybe it's just that their name is so god damn cool it just puts people ... MORE

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (BRMC) has a new album coming out! It's called "Baby 81" and RCA's dropping it on May 1. "Baby 81" is said to be back in the direction of their earlier albums - guitar drenced, dark and multi-layered - in comparison to their last album, "Howl" with it's more stripped down Americana sound. Nike Jago's back in full force. Holy crap if anyone gets this, you must send it over to DaFC immediately! According to Billboard, "Baby 81" features BR... MORE

loud, fast, hard.

if i were in any band right now, i'd want to be in the black rebel motorcycle club. and no, not to pick peter hayes' brain about joel gion, but because this new record may be the only thing keeping me sane this week. i like my rock and roll dirty and a little mean, just a little sweetness thrown in. i want to be able to shut my eyes and know that no matter whether i'm leaving work in my monotone black or i'm standing calves tensed in front of the washer spray and washing h...
