Thinking back, I wasn't too crazy about Black Mountain the first time i heard them. At the time, I was consuming massive amounts of new music. They just didn't fit what I was into at the time. But, lately, they keep sneaking their way into my shuffle and I stop to see who it is. It's Black Mountain AGAIN ! Maybe I DO like this retro rock (60's/70's style) more than I initially figured. There's something about these long-ass jams that sound good around 2 in the morning... MORE

I was feeling a little more acid today and decided to talk about Black Mountain. I was listening to... I think it was NPR ... and heard a review of these guys and really liked them. If you like things that are kind of in the same field as Queens of the Stone Age you should check them out. They're pretty old school as you maybe can tell from the photo below. Also, back to the folk things check our Coral... Snyder just told me about them and they're pretty sweet.... MORE

Did you hear that new joke-rock album by "Black Mountain?" Hilarious! What? Isn't a joke? Huh... But seriously, folks, this album kinda sucks. I don't want to so blatantly talk shit. I mean, the guys are talented musicians for sure; they could very definitely rock your ass off, but their new one, In the Future, just feels like fabricated leather. What I'm trying to say here is that the album has its moments, but unfortunately that's about all it has: moments. It doesn't ... MORE

The 12 inch will also contain a golden ticket that will give fans a sneak preview at material of the new album starting on November... MORE

Why haven't I heard of these guys until now?? This band kicks some major ass! This is why I love music... Day after day I can listen to such repetitive garbage and then BING ! BANG! BOOOOM ! Black Mountain falls from the sky. Their sound is very much classic rock with a modern psychedelic chocolate fudge twist. The leader of the band Stephen McBean (check out his other band Pink Mountaintops) has been criticized as pretty much imitating his influences. Well guess what, his ... MORE

Some albums I have bought recently have faded fast, becoming nothing more than background music to my screenwriting marathons. Vancouver band 'Black Mountain's self titled album definitely doesn't fit into this category.
Black Mountain's sound is exactly what it says on the box, "BLACK and MOUNTAINOUS ". From the tongue in cheek sax built dig at the music industry of 'Modern Music' to the Sabbathesque guitar and meaty drum fills of 'Don't Run Our Hearts Around' through ... MORE
