A Black Lips concert can get crazy. The band is banned from the famous Athens, GA venue, 40 Watt Club, after lighting their equipment on fire. I thought I even remembered hearing someone tell me that guitarist Cole Alexander strips nude and plays the guitar with his penis, usually leading to his arrest or security calling the show off early. That also happened last night during the band's London gig at the Heaven. Amid friendly stage invasions by fans who then dived back i... MORE

Black Lips also have a new video out today, for "It Feels Alright" off Good Bad Not Evil. It was filmed at Atlanta's rap-famous Magic City:
They sound like four dudes who spent a lot of time listening to classic rock records, but they sure know how to bring it when they play. We're talking about none other than the Black Lips who have terrorized stages this summer at both Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. The Atlanta band's new album, Good Bad, Not Evil? hits stores September 11th.
The band recently released a video for Good Bad, Not Evil?'s first single, "Katrina."

I'm not talking about "this is the song that gets on everybody's nerves" ... but a ... song that is much more adult?
I burst out randomly in the middle of a maths test with "Bad Kids" by the Black Lips. Yeah. That was awkward. But at least my teacher's chill and laughed it off. Thank god.
Grimy, sleazy, booze-drenched garage punk is back, and it was on full display on Saturday at the Logan Square Auditorium. Despite the relatively obscurity of Mannequin Men, the Black Lips, and the Ponys, the venue was packed to the brim. By the end of the show, the crowd was drenched in beer and silly string as much as sweat. It was a throwback to the early wild days of punk, and even the most cold-hearted hipster had to be won over. Few Chicago shows this year may top thi... MORE
Sitting here listening to "Not A Problem" by the Black Lips and being very happy about it.
Can't seem to track down anything else of off "Let It Bloom", though, and they strike me as a band i really need to hear a bit more before throwing down for an album.
If January 16 is your birthday, then you don't have any hugely illustrious company. In music, the only people I know to have been born on January 16 are Ethel Merman, Sade, Paul Webb (Talk Talk), Aaliyah, and (thanks to AJ's awesome Mog Calendar) Nick Valensi from The Strokes. The distinctions of the day are in world events instead. My fun fact about January 16 is that in 550, The Ostrogoths conquered Rome after a long siege. What kind of music would Ostrogoth rock be?
