Wow. Did anyone else know that it is the biggest city in the states in terms of land size? I guess they needed to have enough room to house great bands like Black Kids as well as Buffalo Tears and Heavy Flow.

The Black Kids' new (highly anticipated) album, Partie Traumatic has hit the ground running. Although the blog-hype (and also backlash speculation) are absolutely out of control, the Jacksonville Fla group have offered up an album of better than good disposable neo-dance music. I always get the Black Kids mixed up with the Cool Kids in my head, until I hear the music. The Black Kids make laid-back indie rock that borders on shoegaze while the Cool Kids make killer old school hip hop tunes. Personally, I prefer the Cool Kids coz I'm more of a b-girl, but I know loads of my MOG friends will love this new video from the Black Kids, so I'm posting it here. Who is this band from Jacksonville, Florida? Who would have thought that they would produce anything close to an early 80's song by The Cure?
All I know is that Kate Nash is a fan (for whatever that is worth)!
I think I prefer the original...

So, as you can see the northeast is being hit by a rather weak Hurricane today, not a lot of rain just a lot of tree bending wind (and some rain) and it's cold enough to make you want to lay on the couch watching crap movies all day.
So I figured if I'm going to be holed up for awhile with nothing to do why not lay down of barrage of random music posts. Just a few, no more then six, maybe seven, honest!

_Black Kids_ are depressingly hip. The band name is thought provoking (a la Dead Kennedys) rather than outright confrontational (cf. Violent Anal Death). Their multimedia champions are hipster's bibles Pitchfork and NME. They’re signed to Arcade Fire’s management. (_Of course_.) The front man has an afro (don’t worry, he’s not white). And, to top it all off, the band hails from the cyberpunk capital of the world, Jacksonville, Fla. Okay, maybe not the last one.... MORE

Ok, I've been reading quite a few music blogs the last few days and seeing as I don't see anyone else has posted on this band, I'll throw this tune out and see if anyone likes it as much as the critics seem to. They were a big hit I guess at the CMJ musicfest. After listening for the first time, it sounds ok, but I'll need more time to decide if they are as good as everyone says. One person said they were the best American band since Vampire Weekend, which I happen to like... MORE

Black Kid's EP has been dominating my iTunes a lot this week. The song I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You in particular. They are so damn catchy! With the yelling out of numbers and the Dance! Dance! Dance! they remind me a bit of The Go! Team with maybe a bit of shoegaze thrown in.
