AMG Review of Bing Crosby at the London Palladium
John Bush
All Music GuideIn 1976, Bing Crosby gave one of his final concerts at the Palladium in London, and the results were issued on a double LP by K-Tel. In 1997, most of the double LP was reissued by EMI, with one added track. Although Crosby was obviously weak and not in very good vocal condition, it is a treat to hear him reprise his signature tune, "Where the Blue of the Night Meets the Gold of the Day," and duet with Rosemary Clooney for "On a Slow Boat to China." Joe Bushkin fills in the role of Louis Armstrong on another duet, "Gone Fishin," and elsewhere Crosby sings a medley with brief interpretations of 30 of his favorite songs. Almost strictly designed for collectors (with excellent liner notes and sound quality), At the London Palladium is a pleasant release which finds Crosby in a happy mood near the end of his life.
