While Whiplash Smile is Idol's most ambitious album, it only comes to life on hard-rocking pseudo-rockabilly like To Be a Lover." Unfortunately, there aren't many songs that are as good as that single on this album.
OK, OK, Billy Idol does'nt get many spins 'round here anymore. He's collectin' dust somewhere near the Kiss discs. But, this remake of the old William Bell soul ramp is a nice slice of Idol's best moment. Ragtime piano, hot backup singers, and a super-synthed up lead axe passage (ala Steve Stevens) creates a very rewatchable vid. Dig in.
