All Music GuideThis very interesting CD has a variety of mostly rare Billie Holiday live performances from 1944-49. In addition to two selections with the 1944 Esquire All-Stars, Lady Day is heard with Hot Lips Page, accompanied by pianist Teddy Wilson on a 1947 version of "The Man I Love," backed by Percy Faith's string orchestra on "You Better Go Now" and joined by a Red Norvo-led band in 1949 that also includes trumpeter Neal Hefti and the reeds of Herbie Steward. Collectors are advised to search for this set.
