>>>First of all...**"Live Music Is Better, Bumper Stickers should be issued"** .....Another in a random series.**Bill Withers** at Carnegie Hall, workin' it, feelin' it. This semi-improvised free flow social commentary is the last track on a brilliant but flawed live cd. Recorded in '72, it stands up remarkably well today. I like the slow percolating funk groove but the production hasn'...

i think one of my favorite songs in the entire world is *"ain't no sunshine"*. i don't care who plays it, where i am, or what mood i'm in, i always love it. always. if all of my favorite bands could release a cover of that song, that'd be great. k? thanks.also, no matter what anyone tells you, beer bongs that have a tube 6 feet long are NOT COOL. period.and ha:

CD of the day: Bill Withers - Live at Carnegie Hall

This is a great live recording seems to capture a moment in time. I felt transported and totally sucked in. Bill Withers weaves between songs and storytelling effortlessly. I loved his story about grandmothers and how he loved having the responsibility of looking out for her and accompanying her to "happy" church, not the depressing church services. The hoots and comments from the audience show...

This is one of my absolute favorites. It's one of those songs where the lyrics are simple and right to the point, yet don't lose any of there impact or seem stereotypical. The three versions I have:Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers - Greatest HitsAin't No Sunshine (Groove Corporation Dub) - Stryke - Staying InNo Sunshine - DMX - Exit WoundsThe Bill Withers version is by far the best, but the Str...

[Tracks] Bill Withers

I've had Bill Wither's music stuck in my head for days now. Upon starting my new job and thus, my new commute, I made myself promise to, uh, myself that every morning and evening, I'd scour my iPod for stuff that I haven't given its due. Over the years, as a music appreciator, I have acquired loads of music that I've intended to listen to and simply haven't had the time for. I love Girl Talk...

This morning on my way to the office I listened to what may possibly be the best Live album ever; Bill Withers: Live at Carnegie Hall. If you have not heard this album I suggest that you cop it and give it an intent ear. This album is especially important for musicians as it is a text book for how to engage and audience and pace a show. Keep in mind Bill Withers was a huge star by the time thi...

There are few songs in the materialist state of Christmas that really speak to the ideas of what the Holiday could be about. Two songs that really remind me of this fact are Bill Withers' "Let Us Love", and Motown's standard "Someday at Christmas". Though songs shrug off the traditions of Christmas music, both in tone and content, they also speak to a challenge that lies before even the most ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZwKUxjVxB8Blake and I first saw this footage of Withers performing "Ain't No Sunshine" on a dvd of The Old Grey Whistle Test a few years ago. We're both so in love with the performance and I'm still blown away everytime I come across it. It's so deliciously super smooth. Aside from Bill we couldn't take our eyes off of the drummer--James Gadson. OH MAN! The year...

Grandma's Hands

Bill Withers wrote so many great songs but this one has got to be one of the best, its pure genius how he tells a story through the image of these old hands, you feel all of history and the passage of time in this song. Because its about his grandma it also evokes childhood, the child who who becomes a man who remembers where he comes from and the passing of generations."I don't have grandma a...
