AMG Review of Big Syke Daddy
Brad Mills
All Music GuideThere are many mixed feelings about this album. Is Big Syke just a 2Pac roadie who now wants a bit of his own fame or a serious rapper with true skills? After hearing the album it's hard to deny that Syke has some skills, but they just aren't refined to a point where he can start his own little cult following. Fact is, some of the beats on the album sound like West Coast remixes of '80s pop production, and the lyrics are okay but just aren't delivered right. Many times Syke finds himself crunching his words together to fit them in the bar and that doesn't make for an entertaining listening experience. There's also a strange mix of slow songs and hardcore thug-bangers; on the slow tracks it's hard to ignore the fact that he sounds a bit like 2Pac in his delivery, especially on "Why."
