AMG Review of Rarities III

All Music GuideAlthough Big Country had their commercial peak in the mid-'80s, they were an active studio and live band up until the death of lead singer Stuart Adamson in 2001. This collection of B-sides, demos, and previously unreleased tracks is the third in the band's rarities series, and while nothing here will convert the uninitiated, fans of Big Country will find a lot to like, beginning with the stripped-down "Ages of Man" which kicks off the set. The twin e-bow "bagpipe" guitar attack that was Big Country's signature sound is not much in evidence, save for "I Am a Small Republic," but folks looking for solid hard rock with sharp, well-arranged guitars won't be disappointed.
