The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down is an American Classic now. The Band's Potrait of the southern dirt farmer and his shattered post civil war lament has become part of the Great American Songbook. Big Country recorded this track in 1994 with guest volcalists Kim Mazelle, Carol Laula & Steve Harley. ENJOY?

Blog post image preview Big Country exploded on the scene with their brand of heartfelt anthemic rock n roll and 'guitars as bagpipes' sound.Stuart Adamson's lyrics were enigmatic and dark, while the music swirled around like huricanes in Scotland. Their Album "the Crossing" is highly recomended. These ears do not hear a bad track. But they are so much more than that. After they fell out of the spotlight they continued to evolve and find new pathways within their sound. They were also excellent i... MORE

I don't quite know what it is about this song... Is it the "(s)huak" thingy that Stuart yells here & there, is it the fantabulous guitar riff that runs throughout, is it the lyrics that find a way to make me smile no matter what, or just the overall song - the positive vibe that cascades over me whenever I play it, & I do play it - quite a lot ???? I'm going with E (lizabeth)

all of the above :)

Anyone drawing a certain parallel to The Princess Bride ???? ... MORE

In a Big Country . . Big Country was a rock band from Dunfermline, Scotland, popular in the early to mid 1980s, but still releasing material until Stuart Adamsons death in 2001. . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Country . One Great Thing . . Filling in the gaps. No.19 http://mog.com/Neill/blog_post/29537 ....and I still hate bagpipes.

I will never forget listening to this album straight through. 2 singles got radio and video play in the U.S, In A Big Country and Fields of Fire, but, the best tracks were the last 3 tracks of this album. Atmospheric rock with a Celtic twinge. I continue to listen to the album to this day, 20+ years later! I still cannot believe that Big Country lost out to Culture Club for the Best New Artist Grammy - LOL! It was such a shame when lead singer Stuart Adamson ended his own ... MORE
