Elizabeth Caroline Orton, commonly known as Beth Orton, (born December 14, 1970), is a Brit Award–winning English singer-songwriter. Known for her "folktronica" sound, which mixes elements of folk and electronica, she was initially recognized for her collaborations with the Chemical Brothers in the late 1990s--but these were not Orton's first recordings. Another of my favorite artists, I discovered Beth Orton in graduate school. (Hey, we're out of college!) Actually, I "discovered" Beth in much the same way that I discovered most of my favorite music... A friend of mine made me listen to her. Beth's music is difficult to classify. I went to see Beth as I promised in my last update. She was great, far better than when I saw her in March. I thought it had been earlier than that but it was that recent. When she walked out on stage, my friend Kevin and I looked at each other and said simultaineously "is she pregnant"? We weren't sure if she was trying to hide it with her billowy dress but she certainly wasn't successful. Later in the program she blamed "San Francisco" for her big changes. She sai... MORE

I am going to see Beth Orton this weekend.....YEAH! I am really excited to be seeing her. She is very sweet, constantly says "Thank you" to her fans and she puts on a nice long show even when she is feeling under the weather like she was feeling back in February when I saw her last. I'm not sure why Beth Orton can't do the midnight shift for the birds of prey or Hitchcock shaped birds living in the 7 barked cypress outside my flat. Or fill in for every commercial verbage, "brilliant" on WCup, or gingerly pump through the speakers while I hurriedly shuffle Blake from market to naptime.
