Bennie Moten's Kansas City Orchestra was an influential touring blues ensemble in the twenties & thirties. In it's heyday the band included Count Basie on piano & the smooth upright bass of Walter Page. (the upright being somewhat of an innovation in this kind of band, replacing the tuba). After Moten's death The Count built his band from the nucleus of the Kansas City Orchestra.
