The Bens - live version of Bruised is the second video in this mashup of youtube clips. Love Ben Folds...was one of my first concerts and Whatever and Amen was one of the first albums I had.
i just found out that ben folds' wife's name is fleur folds. that's pretty nifty. my love for ben folds speaks no name. he is awesome.
i saw him on a japanese tv show once-- it was this cheesy music show. he just played a song and then the mc asked him if he liked any japanese musicians. i think he mentioned cornelius but the mc didn't care, he wasn't even listening. the mc then asked, what about morning musume? and ben folds yelled, "yeah and kinki kids are the sh... A Musical Deathmatch: Gibbard vs. Folds
In the blue corner it’s alt-rock’s ivory man, the leader of the world’s only three-man “Five”, Mr. Benjamin Folds! And in the red corner, it’s modern indie pop’s resident eldest brother, the gloomy Death Cab driver himself, Mr. Benjamin Gibbard! Keep the gloves up gentlemen, and let’s have a nice clean fight.
Instrumental Prowess
Folds is overwhelmingly identified with his piano, and when you can ha... MORE
For the second in my series about songwriters and their songs about their daughters, I turn to the Ben Folds’ song Gracie. Like John Hiatt, I have always admired Ben Folds for his witty lyrics. He’s always clever about picking the right small moments to explode into a song
His father/daughter song starts like this:
You can’t fool me
I saw you when you came out
Like “Georgia Rae,” you don’t immediately know what he’s talking about, but Folds gets to the ... MORE
but, somehow or the other it bounced back at me as a editor's pick, so i should clear up some stuff from my last post.

Seeing Ben play. It'd had been awhile. Being in Nashville had been even longer. New songs from Ben, even longer than that.
But I got all three done at once these last few days. Nashville was like a tropical climate. Ha. And we got down to the venue's area around noon or so, went and ate across the street, and then were walking back to the car, and there were two people in line. So I sat and waited with them while Mel and her roommate Lindsey went and visited Nashville's ... MORE
This came out about two years ago, and I've been puzzling over it ever since. Is it just a goof? How exactly are we supposed to be taking this? Why the gorgeous pop music with the ugly hateful lyrics? Why do I like it so much? Why do I think too much?
Cool rock and roll showmanship at the end with the forty-eleven guitarists and fake suicide...... MORE
Bad Mogger. Bad.
So. This summer was my summer of shows. I've seen a hella lot of shows. And it was great. And I guess I'll post my reviews each in their own post. But I think I'll spare y'all and do one a day. So today's post is my generic Ben Folds post, that is 100% needed, because it was an odd Folds summer.
I saw Mr. Folds on his John Mayer (boohissboo, not that I don't like John Mayer, because, I'm neutral when it comes to him, but, boo to the ticket price, and the... MORE
Jess and I are going to go with a great song that has brought us to absolute tears so many times in the past. I think it truly represents how we feel about each other. What do you think? What are the chances of getting Mr. Folds to swing by the reception??? Anybody? Hyman....I'm looking in your direction........ MORE
FINALLY, after many months of pining, I got Ben Folds Songs For Silverman DVD ed.
I love Ben Folds, no one can ever dispute that. First heard him over the radio playing Rockin' The Suburbs, back in my eleventh year, shocked and appalled by his swearing but loving the attitude. There was a bit of a drought then, because of course until I was about 14 I had no appreciation of music whatsoever. The I heard my first Ben Folds Five in the form of 3 mix CDs from my good friend A... MORE
